Recently announced by Kitfox Games (publisher of Dwarf Fortress) is Streets of Fortuna, a free-roaming megasim sandbox RPG that's a bit like The Sims meets Project Zomboid but a whole lot more than that.
Kitfox say it's "complicated" in how to describe it, because it's "sort of its own special sandbox you'll muck around in, and the city texture gives that playfulness a tone we haven't seen in other games".
A megasim sandbox where you just do whatever the heck you want, and deal with the emergent chaos that comes with it rather than following a story. So you can live as a thief, a blacksmith, a rebel, a priest, a smuggler, a lover, a cook, or just a street rat. Eventually even take on the ruler of the land, if you want.

Features:
- Freeform gameplay in a dense, seamless, generated city.
- No job or class system to constrain you, only heaps of skills to grow.
- Made in consultation with the creators of Dwarf Fortress to optimize for emergent player stories.
- Simulated people and communities for infinite hours of megasim gameplay.
- Focus on narrow escapes and heists rather than toe-to-toe combat.
- Original, richly textured world and lore, loosely inspired by Constantinople circa 500 AD.
Kitfox mentioned they've been working on it in secret for years, and they've had Tarn Adams of Dwarf Fortress give over their time to help with as they said in their email:
For now Tarn has been generous enough to share an hour of his time every 4-6 weeks, but they've been really valuable hours for us at Kitfox, going anywhere from NPC movement simulation to playtesting to save files, sometimes more fluffy design questions and sometimes more technical conundrums. For now this cadence is great for both parties, since it lets us learn from his experiences without significantly distracting him from Dwarf Fortress.
Sounds really unlike anything else.
You can follow it on Steam. No Native Linux version mentioned so it's likely you'll need Proton.
If I had SOME skill I'd def try pulling it off, I got endless ideas totally possible to be put in a game

Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Ahem...I'll let myself out.
Istanbul was ConstantinopleBut, why did Constantinople get the works?

I need a game like this, but also be able to do all sorts of illegal and messed up sht. Imagine rimworld but RPG life sim with u controlling only 1 person in a city.Hmmm... that sounds a bit like dwarf fortress in "adventure mode". They are currently working on this to be more playable, but its main features are all there.

What I really want is to be a crime lord (think of anything with drugs, prostitution, money laundering, holding people for ransom, etc etc etc...) in a fully simulated world, as well as all the other options SoF has ofc, maybe as a front to my operations since you'd basically need to run a double life this way, if you don't want an early game over.I need a game like this, but also be able to do all sorts of illegal and messed up sht. I KNOW I will love Dwarf Fortress whenever I get around to playing it, holding it off for this exact reason - Rimworld kinda ruined my life for a good while - but I doubt it has what I'm talking about here, does it?
PS: RW has cannibalism, slavery and the Ideology DLC adds a great amount of options, it's why I mentioned it
