Showing just how much Microsoft's attitude has changed with Xbox Game Studios, they've announced Gears of War: E-Day and it's coming to Steam. I have to admit, of the games Microsoft would announce during their event, I thought titles like this would remain a console exclusive. Happy to be surprised by the game and the Steam release!

The Story of E-Day
Fourteen years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself.

New Foundations
Built from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5, Gears of War: E-Day delivers unprecedented graphical fidelity.

I played through I believe only the first two in the series many years ago, and did very much enjoy them. Given how long it's been, a prequel actually makes sense to bring a whole new audience to it. From the detailed blog post, you can expect a similar style to the gameplay of the originals with third-person action as you charge between cover.

“It’s going to feel like a new Gears game, because that’s what it is,” Creative Director Matt Searcy says. “It’s us revisiting the tone and the feeling of what makes Gears great, but we’re tapping into new techniques, new processes, and new technology that’s going to make the gameplay feel better than ever. It’s going to be awesome, a game that feels both truly new, and authentically Gears.”

Thanks again to Valve and their work with Proton, we should be able to experience this on Linux. Given how quickly we've seen Valve get Proton updates out for major releases, I'm excited!

Probably because they've realised game pass is not sustainable

I think that gamepass is great for gamers, but bad for developers (and making it available to PC and whatever thing with internet maybe even hurt Xbox). So IMO it's easier to even make it available to Playstation than make it exclusive to console.

I just hope that this game won't use any AC

What will become of xbox? Will they let it die?

The original Gears of War is what I think Konami should have aimed for a 3D Contra game. The last one is back to its 2D roots and while it play great on Linux, I think it lacks some sauce.

Rumor has it that Xbox as a console will be abandoned with gamepass potentially coming to Playstation.

Other rumors say that the next Xbox will be more like a PC with full fledged windows

This is cool and all but what I would really like instead is a "Gears of War: Marcus Fenix collection" that contains all the gears games that aren't on PC yet or haven't yet gotten steam releases.

Honestly surprises me how many people don't seem to realise that Xbox is the platform, and has been for a long time. The hardware is just one part of that. It's not even a secret, or a rumour, they've said it over and over.

Spoiler, click me

It is good to see Dom again after GOW3. God, his ending scene on GOW3 is one of those that are iconic and you really feel sad, the same way with Ghost on COD MW2. I was playing that game with a childhood friend and we cried a little bit when Dom passed away like that sacrificing to keep the Gears group alive.

And the SAME MUSIC from Dom's ending scene on this trailer, man..... it hit different on the feelings.

" Requires 3rd-Party Account: Xbox Live "

That's a pass for me. Plenty of other games that won't put me though that.
