Showing just how much Microsoft's attitude has changed with Xbox Game Studios, they've announced Gears of War: E-Day and it's coming to Steam. I have to admit, of the games Microsoft would announce during their event, I thought titles like this would remain a console exclusive. Happy to be surprised by the game and the Steam release!

The Story of E-Day
Fourteen years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege on humanity itself.

New Foundations
Built from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5, Gears of War: E-Day delivers unprecedented graphical fidelity.

I played through I believe only the first two in the series many years ago, and did very much enjoy them. Given how long it's been, a prequel actually makes sense to bring a whole new audience to it. From the detailed blog post, you can expect a similar style to the gameplay of the originals with third-person action as you charge between cover.

“It’s going to feel like a new Gears game, because that’s what it is,” Creative Director Matt Searcy says. “It’s us revisiting the tone and the feeling of what makes Gears great, but we’re tapping into new techniques, new processes, and new technology that’s going to make the gameplay feel better than ever. It’s going to be awesome, a game that feels both truly new, and authentically Gears.”

Thanks again to Valve and their work with Proton, we should be able to experience this on Linux. Given how quickly we've seen Valve get Proton updates out for major releases, I'm excited!

Rumor has it that Xbox as a console will be abandoned with gamepass potentially coming to Playstation.

Other rumors say that the next Xbox will be more like a PC with full fledged windows

New rumour: XBox Copilot+ Console where everything is always on and listening.

I don't use it because it's Microsoft. And fuck Microsoft - they've pretty much ruined computers.

This is interesting. I will check reviews after it's released. I loved co-op in the first 2-3 games in the original series many years ago. I have no idea if the newer ones are still similar or quite different.
