KDE Plasma 6.1 has been released today bringing with it plenty of exciting new features, some big and some small but there's plenty to enjoy. My favourite desktop environment! I use it on Kubuntu, and it's the same desktop as you see on the Steam Deck.

Some of the bigger features added include:

  • Remote Desktop support from within System Settings.
  • Customization with the Plasma Edit Mode was overhauled.
  • Plasma can now re-open apps from your last session on Wayland.
  • The start of RGB LED sync with your desktop accent colour.

There's a lot more to it including simplifying the logoff / shutdown options, screen locking can now act like a screensaver, visual accessibility improvements including cursor shake and an edge barrier for multi-monitor users.

Another two big additions for Plasma on Wayland include Explicit Sync which helps NVIDIA quite a lot and Triple Buffering, making rendering smoother.

Now to wait for the stable NVIDIA driver to be out...it can't be long now.

Interesting they couldn't ship the new Reef wallpaper with 6.1. It looks nice.

Really wish NVIDIA would introduce Frame Generation for their Linux drivers. I don't use it often but it be nice to be able to use it when it matters/useful.

Really cool to see this, I'm glad we're finally moving to make using an NVIDIA card on Linux non-miserable.

Just updated to 6.1 on Fedora, so slick and pleasant to use as always. Even though I don't use Nvidia, the new additions other than that are welcome. My favourite right now is shake the cursor to make it bigger when you can't find it :D.

KDE6 is finally looking polished. I might consider bumping from KDE5 to KDE6 soon!

Just got 6.1 on my Fedora machine, took me by surprise. I was thinking I was going to wait a while.
