Developer Bippinbits have announced PVKK: Planetenverteidigungskanonenkommandant (yes really) as their next game following Dome Keeper. It looks suspiciously like Dome Keeper is 3D, but it's a lot more than that.

More about it: "In PVKK, you step into the role of a cannon pilot for an autocratic regime, confined to a defense bunker. Your mission: manually control a massive planetary defense cannon to fend off an ongoing interplanetary invasion. Master the various systems to protect your home world.

Interact with a retro-tech cockpit filled with satisfying buttons, levers, dials, and switches. Manage energy generators, scan the skies for enemy vessels, analyze threats, calculate fire trajectories, and execute precise firing procedures. With limited resources and a strict regime, strategic thinking is key to your success."

The Atari 2600 had a game with this idea, gave me more anxiety than any other game ever. Now I see it in 3D.
Oh god.

This reminds me of a scene in the 1985's movie "The Return of the Living Dead". There is a big cannon firing a nuclear warhead. At the time I though it was fake, a prop from a B trash movie. But a couple years ago to my big surprise, I discovered that thing really exists. Its name is M65 atomic cannon. It does not have range to reach meteorites in space on collision course with Earth, but still is a impressive thing.

Quoting: gaboverstaI am disappointed that someone decided to not strictly stick to Planetenverteidigungskannonenkommandant as the titel and introduced an acronym.

The game looks interesting though.

If they don't abbreviate it from the start, the Steam community would come up with their own random terms. Hard to market your game that way. Now you can say PVKK in a chat and anyone who isn't familiar with the game can search for it.

They seem to be about the same length but this planet defense cannon is definitely a higher caliber.

My friend and I had an absolute blast in Dome Keeper, so I will gladly follow anything this dev does. This seems wonderful!

Quoting: EikeThought that looks boring, watched trailer, now think that does look absolutely stylish!

Man, we've gone a long way since Space Invaders. :D
Missile Command! That was my first thought from the description. It better support the trackball...

In all honesty, this is a very accurate way to portray a German term, especially in the industrial and military sense. Some examples:
- Personenkraftwagen (Pkw)
- faserverbundkunststoff (FVK)
- Generaloberstabsarzt (GOSA)

So, it's pretty lore accurate!
