Points for trying something a little different with the life sim genre here. Sally puts you aboard a magic flying ship, which is a bit unusual.

It has all the usual points you might expect though like crafting, cooking, farming, building and then add into that exploring the skies. The skies are filled with floating islands each their own distinct ecosystem with different seasons, resources, animals and inhabitants. There's some random generation here with each play-through being different as it gives you new characters each time with their own emotions, tastes, interests and more. You also get to completely customize your character.

This one actually had a Kickstarter campaign which was quite successful back in 2022 with CA$137,377 raised.

Sally has Native Linux support and in a post on Steam the developers noted "Currently, we have optimized the game to run at a stable, locked, 30 frames per second on the Steam Deck. It is configured at a slightly lower graphics quality than when running on Windows to ensure a smooth experience. It uses a Linux-native build, ensuring optimal compatibility."

Features:

  • Create your own character and play the way you want.
  • Explore the Sally, a beautifully crafted ship inspired by Ghibli aesthetics.
  • Befriend the crewmates by understanding their personalities.
  • Accomplish a myriad of different tasks to keep the ship afloat.

They've put up the first demo on Steam now.

Wow. That ship is more Studio Ghibli than Studio Ghibli.

Be warned that the demo does not save your progress. Particularly irritating as some prompts get stuck on screen and would require a restart to clear.

Game does look fairly interesting for what little I tried though.
