If you're still somehow on the fence about buying a Steam Deck, here's a good chance for you to get one cheaper as Valve given two models a discount.

With the introduction of the Steam Deck OLED in November 2023, the Steam Deck LCD 64GB and 512GB are being phased out and eventually won't be sold any more. The main models that will continue are the 256GB LCD, 512GB OLED and 1TB OLED Steam Decks.

So to help things along Valve has given the Steam Deck LCD 64GB and 512GB a 15% discount, which will last until July 11th 10am PDT / 5PM UTC. This is of course only until stocks lasts, so you may want to be quick to secure one.

You can get them now for

  • 64GB LCD - £262.65 / $296.65
  • 512GB LCD - £330.65 / $381.65

Buy direct from the Steam Store.

I guess it's often hard to buy second-best, but I still think it's s good deal.
As a happy owner of an LCD Steam Deck and using it every night for gaming, to me that's an absolute bargain, if I didn't own one right now, I'd snap that up in a heart beat.

Pretty sure I sold my 512GB LED steam deck to my brother for more than that when I bough the 1 TB OLED

Idem, I got a 'refurbished' LCD Deck and I love it, I've played IDK how many hours of Speed Dreams on it, it's awesome.

I only own the LCD Deck, but in my opinion it's no less worthy of purchase than the OLED model. I mean, Valve surely wouldn't have released it otherwise? And for me personally, the upgrades aren't really that meaningful. I mostly use it at home, so battery life doesn't matter. I don't think I need an OLED screen, as I'm perfectly happy with mine on the LCD Deck, and I don't really fancy screen burn-in that OLEDs are susceptible to. Also, the new WIFI chip wouldn't make that much a difference, as my internet speed is already slower than the old chip. Maybe the bigger screen + less bezels would be cool though. But that's not enough reason for me to buy another Deck. I bought the 64GB model and upgrade the internal storage to 1TB, that was certainly cheaper than paying premium for Valve's storage options
One day, the Steam Deck may be available in Australia...

If you're in Australia my recommendation would be to buy it from Kogan

Steam Deck LCD 64GB
This is the one I have, just dropped that SD card inside and it works like a charm. I played like tens if not over a hundred of different games on it already!

I understood that there is small hdd/ssd inside...
So, you can also put a uSD card next to that and combine both drives as Steam storage? Or how does this work, actually?

There's a micro sd card slot at the bottom of the Steam Deck. Just plug in a card, format it (Steam does that for you in the settings menu) and when you want to install a game, just select the sd card as the install location. Couldn't be any easier.

Internal 64 GB storage is used for the operating system, SD card (1 TB in my case I think) can be configured in Steam Deck settings as default storage for game installations.

You also confirm that choice before each installation but from that point it will install on SD card by default.

As for more demanding games, my boyfriend installed and played Hogwarts Legacy on it without trouble.

there is anyway to split the game files in both he internal storage and microSD card? i think this might even help with loading speed.

Fast 256 GB card is around 100 euro, how much is then 1TB SD card if it is available at all?

I agree it is best to let operating system run on it's 64 GB internal eMMC storage and keep the games on another storage. All probably works faster if they don't share the storage.

But if you buy with intent to upgrade at start, 512 GB eMMC is a better option. Unless you own some big sd cards already.

Yes but loading speed is really not an issue most of the time
