Bazzite, the "next generation of Linux gaming" has a new release out with Bazzite 3.6 bringing support for the new ASUS ROG Ally X handheld.
Getting support in even before it's officially released, which is really nice to see. The ROG Ally X is due out on July 22nd. As the developers said: "Patches and kernel arguments have been added to make sure the ASUS ROG Ally X is supported before its even sold to most consumers. This update also brings fixes and new features for the original ASUS ROG Ally hardware as well making this update dedicated to the Ally and other handheld PCs. Notable fixes to RGB, calibration for controller deadzones, and better default controller endstops."
So how did they get support in like this? Well, you can thank YouTuber Fan The Deck for it (Twitter/X), who had access early and decided to get testing and reporting for the Bazzite team so they could get everything ready.
Other improvements also come with Bazzite 3.6 including ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go get their audio enhanced, so now it should be closer to Windows. The Legion Go also now has accurate colours in Desktop Mode to match up with the type of screen it uses along with adaptive brightness support.
Also Handheld Daemon saw a new release, which was pulled into Bazzite.

Also, overall there's just a lot of resources that's been accumulated to help people install stuff like Da Vinci Resolve and others. For me, Universal Blue as a whole is what gets me into the immutable train because it's very usable.
On a more power-user side, there is what is now called BlueBuild, which allows you to build your own images. I have a github repo in which I use Bazzite as a base image to build my own image with my own packages list and usr/etc files, allowing me to essentially have my own personal distro after a 6-click short setup process.

Bazzite has multiple images to choose from: a desktop/laptop image which puts you into the DE of choice (Gnome/KDE) a Home Theater PC (HTPC) image and handheld images. The HTPC and handheld are more comparable to ChimeraOS and SteamOS.
I didn't know about ChimeraOS's "web app to install and manage games from any device". That seems cool. However, I'd like to have the same OS across multiple devices (desktop, laptop, and Steam Deck). I think Bazzite will offer a more consistent and useable experience in this regard.
Bazzite seems very promising, just not quite polished enough to get a $800 gadget specifically for it. It's not their fault either, I really hope both the suspend and Nvidia/Wayland/GameScope situations can be resolved within the next few driver updates.

Bazzite has ProtonDB-style compatibility rankings for non-Deck handhelds on their wiki.
The ROG Ally is Gold (highest is platinum), whereas other devices like the Legion Go are Platinum.
I run a GPD Win 4 with Bazzite (Gold compatibility), and while it's almost flawless, it did require some minor manual fixes. I'd imagine it's similar for the Ally.
That being said, the Bazzite experience has been good enough to convince me to sell my Steam Deck and use my Win 4 full time as my PC handheld of choice. I'd assume that Bazzite + ROG Ally X can be a viable alternative too.
