MetalMercs could be a good one for those of you who love customizable mech combat action, and this time it's not turn-based it's actually real-time. The simplistic retro visuals will be an acquired taste though I think on this one but it seems like the gameplay will make up for it.

"Destroy. Salvage. Repair. Upgrade. PROFIT! MetalMercs offers a real-time tactical experience where you command your own mercenary outfit of mechs and mercs and adventure through randomly generated missions filled with rewards, glory, and bitter defeat."

Features:

  • Complex Strategic Gameplay - Command your squad in battle and plan your tactics to dominate the battlefield.
  • Precision Strikes - Turn the tide and cripple enemies with called shots where YOU direct powerful attacks against your enemies.
  • Salvage and Scrap - Make key choices between missions to salvage spare parts and mechs, or use your salvage rights to keep your mechs operational.
  • Upgrade and Customize - Earn cash and parts to upgrade your mechs, enhancing their capabilities with powerful weapons and advanced technologies.
  • Dynamic Missions - Each mission offers different objectives and outcomes based on your strategic choices and actions.
  • Tactical Depth - Every decision matters, from the deployment of forces to the management of resources, adding tension and importance to every action.

It does use some AI generation though, which the developer notes includes "This game currently uses some stand-in images created via generative AI. This includes some background screens, fluff images, and pilot portraits. All other gameplay visuals are manually crafted."

You can check it out on Steam with a Native Linux demo.

Whats this???..... A modern MechCommander game???...... Count me in!.....
Those graphics are not good. Meanwhile, it looks like an interesting level of complexity, but maybe too high to really use in real time with fights as big as some of the fights in the trailer are. So I dunno, I'd want to wait and see what people who play it think.
