Well that's a lovely surprise. Dragon Age: The Veilguard just got Steam Deck Verified, showing that Valve have been testing it ready for the upcoming release. Testing was done on the latest stable version of Proton, which is currently Proton 9.0-2.

A release date hasn't yet even been announced, we just know it will be sometime this "Fall", which is sometime between September - December, so that's really early for the testing to be done.

Good news, since this means it should work just fine on desktop Linux too since it will be run with Valve's Proton.

Experience new strategic depth as you combine fast-paced attacks, parries, and dodges with the companion ability wheel to exploit enemy weaknesses and seize victory with devastating combat combos. Customize a combat style that works for you.
  • Deep RPG Progression — Level up your Rook and companions with their own skill trees. Choose perks and combat abilities as you climb towards more powerful specializations.

You can follow it on Steam.

Will you be picking up Dragon Age: The Veilguard at release? I must admit, the Dragon Age games kind of flew past me. I've only played one of them and wasn't overly hooked on it. But since Baldur's Gate 3, I'm definitely into RPGs once again so maybe this time it will get me more into it after being refreshed by BG3.

Update: the developer confirmed on X (Twitter) that "the EA App will not be required to play the game". Great news!

Quoting: TarosYay, no more special Proton build like for Inquisition.

That's funny because I'm playing it right now (never finished it back when it came out), and I was surprised I had to use that special DAI proton just to get my controller working. I'm excited for this.

I'm the same way with not finishing Inquisition back then but where can I get this DAI proton version? I'm thinking of revisiting this game soon and would like to have controller support when playing on my Steam Deck.
The original Dragon Age is one of my all-time favorite RPGs. It's also the last game BioWare developed as an independent studio before selling out to EA.

I wonder if this one will be any good?

Aren't EA in the process of blocking their catalogue from Linux users? Is this title guaranteed to not get the same treatment before or after launch?

There are no guarantees with any game. Even with games that advertise explicit Linux support, a small number will remove it later down the line; EA haven't even done that here - they support Windows and it happens to work, for now, in Proton. Feel free to price your purchases according to the amount of support you receive in exchange.
