Hollow Survivors: Prologue is out today, giving us a slice of what to expect from this rogue-lite dungeon crawler where you play as one of the few remaining sane Hollows. Since it's a Prologue, it's more like a standalone demo but it seems to be worth a look and offers Native Linux support too.

While you may be thinking, oh no, another survivor-like but not quite. While it certainly has some elements popularised by Vampire Survivors, that it seems like half of the indie world is copying, like picking random upgrades it's a lot more than that. This is a seriously stylish and atmospheric dungeon crawler. Well, more like a tower crawler in this case with you climbing stairs after each area is defeated to ascend ever higher.

I've been playing it through and think it's a delight. Some great action, and the character builds you can make are really interesting. What makes it quite fun is that you only have three main abilities: your main weapon, a magical blast and to quick-dodge. But when you level up, you pick from a set of randomized abilities to power each of them up. So when you dodge you might hit enemies with lightning, or your magical blast might additionally add another hit to enemies after a short countdown and so on.

The style of it is just fantastic overall, really worth a go.

Played for 5-10 minutes, it's slow and boring I'd say, the artwork is pretty meh and it is heavily pixelated. I think I'm fed up with this style. Wizard of Legend 2 eats this for breakfast, the only interesting fast action top-down hack & slash with fluid movement and a good pace I'm waiting for this year (assuming it won't be affected by the latest Humble Games fiasco).
