If you need help with GOG games on Linux Desktop and Steam Deck, your best bet is probably the Heroic Games Launcher which recently had some nice improvements.
It's a shame that The Suffering and The Suffering: Ties That Bind aren't discounted before they will be delisted at the beginning of next month.
I forgot about those games!
The Suffering: TTB is THE first game I played when I got my first ever GPU, the pixel shader effects totally blew me away

Is there a good place to check when to know if a games about to be demister? I had no idea until I saw your postSometimes there is a stickied warning thread on GOG, sometimes they only post it on their semi-secret discord, and sometimes there is an announcement after the fact.
Kult's collection thread on GOG catalog removals or Games At Risk of Being Removed from GOG's Catalog - Tracking Thread can help. The first thread might be too late depending on GOG and the second thread has a lot of guesses.

I played those on PS2; really enjoyed and finished the first one, but I don't think I got too far on the second one before I got distracted for some reason or other. Not sure if it didn't pull me in as well, or if it was just bad timing.

Get on that free Tropico 4 right away! 🌴🌴🌴 It is the best Tropico game (although I haven't played 6 yet).4 is way better IMHO. Everyone should give it a try. It is a good builder with nice humor, cool music and some of the most lovably incompetent characters you could find in a game.
