Despite still being invite-only and only having the softest of announcements possible, Deadlock from Valve has seen its player count rise sharply.
Since the lifting of public discussion restrictions on it the player count has gone from around 30,000 to a peak of 89,203. This means it has been seeing more players than Team Fortress 2, DayZ, Dead by Daylight, Overwatch 2 and other multiplayer games. At time of writing it's number 14 on the most played list.
Not surprising though is it? It's a new Valve game, obviously there was going to be immense hype around it. This is basically like saying "water is wet", but hey it's a new Valve game that some of you can actually play, right now. What a time to be alive.
I'm currently just cracking-up at the background info for some of the heroes like Lash who "is an asshole", and that's literally all we're given about them. Yes, this is really what Valve put in the game. Perfect, no notes.
But there's also Yamato, who doesn't speak English, and so their background isn't either:
Valve developers also confirmed recently in the Deadlock Discord server that they're currently working on "larger anti-cheat systems" for the game too.
You can follow it on the Steam page. Currently on Linux you need Proton to play it.
Have you managed to get an invite? Are you enjoying it? Let us know in the comments.
I´d love to have a look. Is there any way to get an invite, or does Valve only pick users by some criteria for now?
Deadlock steam forums are full of threads by people handing out free invites.
I'm still waiting on my notification ^^
The trick to getting an invite is to have friends
Does it mean I will never play? :(
Unfortunately, I am the friend that bring things to the group so I am doomed either way :P

Modern culture is broken. Generosity and kindness are conflated with weakness.
Either way, stay excellent, modern society is on it's way out.
Penguins could always make a steam group and lend a flap ;P
I received my invite a little bit after my last comment
Care to spread the love and help a fellow penguin out?
Seems a little too easy and you've got to wonder if Valve will shut down invites. Not sure they have the server capacity for all the people getting in...
Not necessarily. They don't necessarily have very limited servers, it could be that they can still handle millions of users but they want to avoid sudden spikes or unexpectedly high number of players. Also, having easy invite doesn't mean everyone interested will jump on. Many people, like myself, will just prefer to wait for the official release rather than going the extra steps to get an invite. Even if those extra steps are super easy, they are still extra steps.

I think I've gotten in just waiting for the invite to clear. Got in through the games discussion section in steam. Seems a little too easy and you've got to wonder if Valve will shut down invites. Not sure they have the server capacity for all the people getting in...They have the server capacity twice over.
On Valve's scale server capacity isn't a bottle neck.
Why do you think Microsoft, Google and Dropbox try to convince everyone on the planet to host their files on their cloud.
Hosting your first server is hard, but hosting ten thousand isn't significantly harder(until crowdstrike takes your system offline, but you can buy off that risk by intiating a testing server.)
This is a new game I expect it's about development and marketing resources.
The thing is still in beta and the more people use your game, the more bugs will be discovered.
A gradual release like this allows you to get user feedback and data, so you can fix the production issues before millions of people start filing the complaints.

Got one this way, thanks for the tip! ^^
Sorry for further pirating this thread for personal gains. But the Fear Of Missing Out is strong in this one. :)
I didn't even know GOL had Direct Messages, actually.
