Developer ellraiser of TNgineers is back again with another wonderful casual exploration, discovery and breeding sim. While APICO had you do beekeeping, Mudborne has you breed all sorts of Frogs.

Mudborne is a bit more fantasy-styled than APICO with you being able to use the genetic keys of the new species you create you can unlock the paths between the waking and dreaming worlds. Sounds pretty wild.

The game begins with you awakening from hibernation to find your pond abandoned and empty. Through a combination of crafting mini-games, menu management and puzzle solving, experiment with genetics to breed new frogs and recover what was lost.

For this game, the developer has now moved on from Game Maker too, instead going with LÖVE, a free and open-source cross-platform framework. Speaking to the developer, ellraiser, it sounds like they're really enjoying their time using LÖVE and of course it works much nicer on Linux too with ellraiser telling me it has "been a breath of fresh air all round".

So you might want to hop over to the Steam page and try out the new demo.

Seems neat.
I wondered, from the mention of hibernation, but I wasn't clear until I watched the trailer that you are also a frog in this.

A fully sentient frog capturing and breeding other frogs. I'm not sure if I should feel perturbed or not...

Anyway, game looks fun.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks that it is a bit weird.
