Good news retro game lovers, as GOG have now confirmed that Resident Evil 2 is due to get its re-release on August 27th. This is coming as part of GOG's classic collection with Resident Evil 1 releasing back on July 26th, with Resident Evil 3 yet to be given a date,

Like with the first, GOG are ensuring there's a bunch of updates to get it working nicely including:
- Full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- 6 localizations of the game included (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese).
- Improved DirectX game renderer.
- New rendering options (Windowed Mode, Vertical Synchronization Control, Gamma Correction, Integer Scaling and more).
- Improved audio volume and panning.
- Improved cutscenes and subtitles.
- Improved savegame manager.
- Improved game video player.
- Issue-less game exit.
- Improved game registry settings.
- Improved key-binding settings and audio settings screens.
- Improved end credits in the German version.
- Fixed issues with Rooms 114 and 115 (missing text), Room 210 (invisible diary), and Room 409 (looping sound).
- Full support for modern controllers (Sony DualSense, Sony DualShock4, Microsoft Xbox Series, Microsoft Xbox One, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Logitech F series and many more) with optimal button binding regardless of the hardware and wireless mode.
- 4th Survivor and Tofu modes enabled from the very beginning.
For Linux Desktop and Steam Deck players, you'll need Wine / Proton to play it, but hopefully this will be the best edition of the classic given that impressive sounding list. Getting GOG games on Linux is pretty darn easy with my favourite Heroic Games Launcher which only just had some big GOG improvements too.

Resident Evil 2 has always been my favourite of the bunch. It's just a pity that re-releases are inevitably missing the content that was added to the Nintendo 64 version*!
*That port was an incredible technical feat in and of itself, crunching down two CD-ROMs into one 64MB cartridge, and then it managed to have more to it than the other versions!

You cannot beat the original Resident Evil 2.
Looking forward to this being released and will be playing it on my ArcoLinux Gaming PC. I've finally taken the plunge and moved to Linux full time for gaming, as before relying on Windows. Just played through Uncharted 4 through Proton and can honestly say I am enjoying gaming in Linux. I poo pooed Proton when it first released and thought it would never get off the ground, but that was mainly in it's first year. Since then, with the Steam-Deck release and the amazing work done in Proton and WINE for us to be able to play PC games, from nearly on first day release, is amazing.

Also, I still like the fact that it was innovative at the time on PS1 imho since no other game managed to have the story converged, regardless of which disk you started out with first.

As a side note, some purist will never like the remake version of RE2 because of the changes they made to it, but I like it just as much as the original
Quoting: clatterfordslimYou cannot beat the original Resident Evil 2.I felt the same way when I was trying out Proton for the first time and came away disappointed because it didn't convince me that Linux was ready to play Windows games. However, once I got the Steam Deck and try out a bunch of games, I was amazed that it played Windows games better than I expected. Now, I'm thinking of building a PC to use one of the SteamOS variants like Bazzite, ChimeraOS, etc.

I do intend to try out the N64 version relatively soon, though - it's already earmarked as my gaming pick for Halloween.

It's not aimed at me, though, so I haven't played it and won't.

I hope this one actually works in Heroic. I could not get RE1 from GOG to launch in Heroic at all; always the same error, "failed to initialize graphics hardware".
RE2 is my favorite of the classic Resident Evils.

I wanted to try out Bazzite, but NVIDIA still doesn't support Gamescope, so I'm stuck between choosing Bazzite Desktop Edition and Linux Mint.

I had installed duckstation emulator because I wanted to play RE1, I got derailed playing NWN 2, Metal Gear Solid and Monkey Island but for sure I now have to add the second part! I'm playing RE4 on the Wii, I believe that I'm at half on the game so it will take me another four years to finish and take the other two!

Quoting: PyreticNVIDIA still doesn't support GamescopeCorrect me if I'm wrong but but that no longer appears to be true. At least, not since May of 2022. Straight from the website:
QuoteIt runs on Mesa + AMD or Intel, and could be made to run on other Mesa/DRM drivers with minimal work. AMD requires Mesa 20.3+, Intel requires Mesa 21.2+. For NVIDIA's proprietary driver, version 515.43.04+ is required (make sure the nvidia-drm.modeset=1 kernel parameter is set).

I should have specified better: Bazzite doesn't support NVIDIA and Steam Gaming Mode. Selecting NVIDIA on their website says that Steam Gaming Mode does not support NVIDIA as of now.
