GOG confirm Resident Evil 2 re-release date for August

Resident Evil 2 has always been my favourite of the bunch. It's just a pity that re-releases are inevitably missing the content that was added to the Nintendo 64 version*!

*That port was an incredible technical feat in and of itself, crunching down two CD-ROMs into one 64MB cartridge, and then it managed to have more to it than the other versions!

You cannot beat the original Resident Evil 2.
Looking forward to this being released and will be playing it on my ArcoLinux Gaming PC. I've finally taken the plunge and moved to Linux full time for gaming, as before relying on Windows. Just played through Uncharted 4 through Proton and can honestly say I am enjoying gaming in Linux. I poo pooed Proton when it first released and thought it would never get off the ground, but that was mainly in it's first year. Since then, with the Steam-Deck release and the amazing work done in Proton and WINE for us to be able to play PC games, from nearly on first day release, is amazing.

Personally, I prefer the PS1 version because it's the one that I played originally and didn't have any interest in the Nintendo N64 to play the game again when it was rereleased, despite the additions on that version. Also, I still like the fact that it was innovative at the time on PS1 imho since no other game managed to have the story converged, regardless of which disk you started out with first.

As a side note, some purist will never like the remake version of RE2 because of the changes they made to it, but I like it just as much as the original

I felt the same way when I was trying out Proton for the first time and came away disappointed because it didn't convince me that Linux was ready to play Windows games. However, once I got the Steam Deck and try out a bunch of games, I was amazed that it played Windows games better than I expected. Now, I'm thinking of building a PC to use one of the SteamOS variants like Bazzite, ChimeraOS, etc.

Same here, funnily enough, but that doesn't detract from the Nintendo 64 port's achievements, for me. I do intend to try out the N64 version relatively soon, though - it's already earmarked as my gaming pick for Halloween.

I don't like remakes in general, so chances are that I would be among that number. It's not aimed at me, though, so I haven't played it and won't.

I hope this one actually works in Heroic. I could not get RE1 from GOG to launch in Heroic at all; always the same error, "failed to initialize graphics hardware".

RE2 is my favorite of the classic Resident Evils.

I wanted to try out Bazzite, but NVIDIA still doesn't support Gamescope, so I'm stuck between choosing Bazzite Desktop Edition and Linux Mint.

I had installed duckstation emulator because I wanted to play RE1, I got derailed playing NWN 2, Metal Gear Solid and Monkey Island but for sure I now have to add the second part! I'm playing RE4 on the Wii, I believe that I'm at half on the game so it will take me another four years to finish and take the other two!

I should have specified better: Bazzite doesn't support NVIDIA and Steam Gaming Mode. Selecting NVIDIA on their website says that Steam Gaming Mode does not support NVIDIA as of now.
