A big release for the Heroic Games Launcher team has landed, version 2.15.0 is out now with some necessary bug fixes and some big new features to help you get all your games on Steam Deck and Desktop Linux. Four months on from the last release, this has been in the makings for a while!

Here's what's changed:

  • Added support for EA games from Epic Games Store
  • Fixed issues with downloading from Amazon Games
  • Added (legacy) DRM support for Amazon Games - Devil May Cry 1 is now playable
  • Discord rich presence overhaul
  • [Linux] Experimental umu-launcher support (disabled by default until 1.x release)
  • [Linux] Experimental comet support - enabling GOG achievements and multiplayer
  • [Linux] It is now possible to install and uninstall DLC for Native Linux games.
  • [macOS] GPTK (Gaming Port Toolkit) is now available to download from Wine Manager (Works better with Apple Silicon and with macOS Sonoma or higher).
  • Several other improvements and fixes all around Heroic

Once again doing what companies don't, the GOG improvement with Comet is a big one, especially for Linux since it brings us closer to the features available via GOG Galaxy. Once umu is properly ready, that will be another great one so we can get the best possible compatibility when running games via Proton in Heroic so I'm looking forward to seeing that progress.

A quick follow-up release v.2.15.1 was also made to solve some issues:

It also delivered one of the smaller bug fixes that will stop making GOG.com games "unable to install". Very happy with the new release! Hooray! Remember to donate to the project!

I guess that means I can play Battlefront 2 from Epic? That'd be sick. Really great work from the Heroic team.

Yes! It was so funny to me that because multiple layers of shite (EGS, EA) this wasn't previously possible. I ended up buying myself a copy of Battlefront II on Steam anyway mostly because of this

Big yay for UMU support! Already enabled and I'll be testing how it runs. Immediate problem - seems that it's working from a different prefix and my God of War saves are out of game's reach. Not that it's a problem, I only played first 10 minutes

Heroic launcher allows to use proton for games from all platforms or only when using it from steam games? Others are ran with wine or in other way?

Heroic allows one to set either one for any game, regardless of whether the game is also available on steam or not.

GOG failing to provide good Linux support for non-Linux-native games (via Wine or Proton launcher) was the reason I moved to Steam years ago when they started supporting Linux.
Bought many games over the years, so it's not viable to move back to GOG.
There is also a DEB package for Ubuntu but it is hard to find through the website. Flatpak is not installed on Ubuntu by default.

Deb-get is a good addition for things that don't have a ppa
