Starship Troopers: Extermination is already a fun game, but the initial Early Access release was short-lived due to a lack of content. Over time, Offworld have really built it up and the new upcoming single-player mode has me really excited. I have a real sweet spot for Starship Troopers, as one of my favourite sci-fi movies.

There's been a lot of performance updates over the last year with DLSS and FSR3 also being added. Weak points were introduced to bugs to aim for; new planets; a new carnage system so the maps will fill up with bug bodies instead of them vanishing, that all have collisions too, creating some interesting interactions; different types of ammo and lots more.

Check out the new trailer featuring Casper Van Dien from the original sci-fi classic movie:

There's also a new developer diary that goes over the upcoming massive tanker bug addition, appearing just as it did in the 1997 classic movie. Also mentioned is another new planet coming, the icy planet Boreas, where you'll face various mutated bugs.

On top of that there's some new details on the single-player mode, which sees you undertake a multitude of missions that vary in scope and objectives. Mainly, they're designed to prepare you for the 16-player online mode, with more missions planned after the October 11th launch out of Early Access.

Hopefully at the full release it will have more players, as it's good fun. The biggest problem with it is actually getting into a game, as you're forced to matchmake with seemingly no ability just to start a game by yourself and let others come in later.

It's currently Unsupported on Steam Deck, but does run on Desktop Linux with Proton 9.

The article should have ended with "Would you like to know more?"

As much as I like this game, I can't recommend it yet.
3440x1440 with minimal settings it runs like sh**.
In fact, changing settings doesn't do much to be honest.

There are some balance in game issues, but otherwise, i look forward to it being fixed.
Once it is - I can see it being a SERIOUS time vampire.

Hmm
Seems they copied that bit from the movie.
Also , don't recall any arachnid warriors that ate steroids for breakfast like the big one in the trailer.
Why does it seem the violence is so fucking toned down. Everybody gets masks , no blood or dismemberment . When "it" hits the fan ? Really ?

Yeah, it isn't Starship Troopers without hearing, "MEDIC!" after someone is cut in half.

Heinlein's original novel is even better.

Far as I can tell, though, the two are in kind of an interesting conversation. 'Cause, like, Starship Troopers is kind of a political thought experiment, taking seriously and conveying quite positively the idea of a very militarist society where only people who step up to do some killing get to vote, and taking for granted the idea that space war is basically perpetual. (In the book it's clear that Earth is not just fighting bugs, but also whoever else is on offer--there's at least one mission where they're running around tac-nuking pink humanoids)

The movie is not so much a portrayal of the book as a satire of it, poking fun at all the fascism.
