While Roblox does still remain blocked on Linux with Wine, as usual the community finds a way. The Vinegar team recently revealed Sober, a currently closed-source specialized runtime for the Android version of Roblox.

So if you're really desperate to get Roblox on Linux, Sober seems like the main way right now. Since it uses the Android version, you do need to manually download a Roblox APK which can be done from various mirror websites like apkmirror. There's lots of these sites where you can grab an APK, do so at your own risk.

The Vinegar team explain: "Sober crafts a specialized runtime for the Android version of Roblox. Effectively, it bridges the small gap between Android and Linux, allowing for a native unofficial port."

As you can see from my shot below, it works:

Currently it's available to download as Flatpak, but not from Flathub as they're hosting it themselves.

Like before when playing Roblox in Wine though, it's possible (and probable) it will be blocked eventually. Although, it may end up being a little more difficult with something like this.

See more on the Sober website.

"Sober is a new way to play Roblox" . . . So, everyone was playing drunk before? Geeze, most of them are under age!

Not sure what to think about this, but I'm quite sure what to think about Roblox.

After some testing, this works well enough with NVIDIA unlike the previous Waydroid workaround.

I wonder, though, if this could be applied to other games that have Android versions, but not Linux versions. After all, if a game's ported to Android, half the work is done for a Linux version already.

I tried the waydroid method back then, and worked reasonably well on two Intel laptops I tested, but performance was terrible on AMD hardware (apparently because libhoudini does not work well on AMD CPUs). Anyway even if it worked well, there were some problems that would have prevented playing, like some odd mouse behavior (limited movement on the sides).

I wonder if this fixes the mouse and perf on AMD hardware, but will wait until there is a non-flatpack version to test.

If it helps, I've got an AMD processor (Ryzen 5600X) and it works fine.

Then it looks like the perf problem is gone (I tested back then with a Ryzen 5700X and perf was terrible).

Have you tested if the mouse can move "infinitely to one side"? With waydroid, when you reached a point, it got stuck. For example moving the mouse to the right, there was a point where camera stopped moving until you moved it again back to left. I suspect it must be an Android limitation, maybe Android stops moving the cursor when it reaches the screen end, and that was the problem, but this is speculation on my side.

That also works fine.

Awesome, thanks for testing!

Honestly drunk is still THE best way to play it

Conplain about problems, decide to use the unsupported and not official flatpak version, really?
