Update - 22/08/24 17:40 UTC: Valve has now actually announced this change.

While I can't find anywhere that Valve actually announced this, they've done another tweak to the user review system on Steam to show who primarily played on Steam Deck. This follows on from the recent user review update that attempted to deal with jokes, memes and ASCII art.

Just another way for Valve to advertise their Steam Deck in a neat way, and importantly for potential buyers to see who is really playing on Steam Deck. It's a good way to gauge if a game is truly worth a purchase for you, if you're also primarily a Steam Decker.

When you look over various user reviews on Steam, you might now spot a Steam Deck icon, the same one that was added to the friends list recently to show who is currently online on Steam Deck.

As some examples here's one from the excellent Selaco:

And another from DAVE THE DIVER:

This might even push more Steam Deck players to make a review, just to show off how many hours they've put into a game. Which can then help push even more game sales, and perhaps more Steam Deck sales too.

Now Valve just need to add a filter to show only Steam Deck reviews, and it should work quite nicely.

SD must be doing really well for Valve to be confident about doing this. Otherwise this would backfire if people noticed that not many people are playing on the deck.

I've always been a handheld gamer, and that continues with the Steam Deck, so this will be really useful for me. It's already helpful when people include a note in their review about how a game works on Deck, and this will add to that.

This is another important factor. Hours played is something I look at to determine if I would even read a review. If they let me filter for reviews by Steam Deck players, this will be really helpful.

This is great to see. It's always good to know that a game is not just verified, but ran well enough for the Deck to win!

That would be HIGHLY appreciated! Most of the times, usually already have a good understanding of what a game is about and if I´d like it, so I usually only look through the reviews to find out how well it runs on the Deck.

Just noticed it as well and wanted to report, but here we are. ;-) Useful change, could also use a filter.
Maybe they will also add Win/Mac/Linux/Proton markers?

I would like to see this expanded out to per-operating-system as well. There is a big difference between playing on SteamOS and playing on true Desktop Linux. Valve are already tracking time played with Proton as Linux play time, and can differentiate between SteamOS as well (for the Year in Review and now this). It would also be great to filter reviews based on this, for example only reviews from people on the Linux Desktop using the native build (because SteamOS may enforce Proton for battery or modding purposes, and enforces the Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 currently for all native titles, but the Linux Desktop is much more free).
