The Dwarves dug deep and broke out of the Epic Games Store, as The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria has released on Steam. Originally released back in October 2023 as an Epic Exclusive.

Free Range Games mentioned in a post on Steam that they've been working on getting Steam Deck Verified, and while there's no current status given to it from Valve they made it clear the "experience will feel good on the Steam Deck on launch day". Noting features like the full controller support along with the in-game keyboard being hooked up, smooth performance, the correct resolution is set, fonts should look good and so on. However, they did say there's "more improvements coming" for Steam Deck too.

Once again, it's great to see more developers doing proper testing to ensure compatibility! Steam Deck testing with SteamOS will mean it works well for desktop Linux users too since both use the same Proton to run Windows games.

From the press release: “We are ecstatic to bring The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria to Steam and Xbox, providing the opportunity for a whole new audience to delve into the Mines of Moria," said John Miller, CEO, North Beach Games. "With the addition of all of the new features and content in The Golden Update, Return to Moria delivers the deepest look yet at a survival-crafting experience based on The Lord of the Rings, and we cannot wait to hear what players think.”

“The development team has put in so much work since we first launched in October 2023 and we’re really proud of how far the game has come,” said Jon-Paul Dumont, Game Director, Free Range Games. “From Crossplay to Sandbox mode, to all the new content and improvements based on player feedback, we’re more excited than ever for fans to play Return to Moria.”

The game has very positive reviews on Steam now despite the rocky launch on EGS. I will be picking this up.
