Well, this is a bit more on the unique side isn't it? I know we have plenty of classic adventure game fans in the GOL readership, but what about one where you don't actual control the adventurer? Check out The Protagonish.
It has all the usual marks of a classic point and click adventure game, but you're not the main character. Instead, you jump between the villagers, and choose to guide or distract the adventurer from their quest, with puzzles, comedy dialogue choices, and mysteries to uncover. Absolutely love the idea!

With full voice acting and plenty of colourful characters, backed up by some lovely hand-drawn animations, this is one you should check out.
More: "Explore the beautifully hand-drawn village, and discover the lives and plans of four varied characters in this short game with multiple endings. Through your dialogue choices, be a shopkeeper out for the best deal, a monk who's taken a vow of silence, or a miner who's had a bump on the head and not quite saying what he means. And finally there is the mysterious beastie..."
You can try the demo on Steam right now. It will be available with Native Linux support at release.
Might have to give this a try to see if the approach is fun in practice or ends up feeling like a weird gimmick. My main worry was that it would make the MC less relatable and reduce immersion. It could quite work as a puzzle game.
Often enough, those barely have a MC or hell, even a story, to really immerse you, instead it is more about the puzzles and atmosphere/humor/etc.
Oh, for sure. My initial idea was aimed more at a narrative-heavy game, hence my concern. A point-and-click like this might bridge the gap between puzzles and story well enough to make it work satisfyingly :)Might have to give this a try to see if the approach is fun in practice or ends up feeling like a weird gimmick.
