NEODUEL: Backpack Monsters is out today from DiceHit Games, Rogue Duck Interactive and it's another quality one in the inventory management auto-battler genre. Note: key provided by the publisher.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery as they say and this is very similar in style to Backpack Hero, and then Backpack Battles even more so. The idea is to build up a backpack of creatures and items, moving them all around into the best possible position to have the highest possible battle power to take down opponents in automatic battles. It's a pretty cute entry with all the creature designs and is plenty of fun to play through.

As you progress you get monies to expand your backpack with additional slots, which you can place anywhere as long as one slot connects to another. And then you can buy and sell various items and creatures to fill it all up again.

If you haven't played auto-battlers or inventory management games before, I would consider NEODUEL: Backpack Monsters to be a really nice entry to it with the wonderfully sweet creature design and fun fusions. Some creatures have multiple types of fusions to transform, giving you many ways to tweak your inventory as you go depending on what items you can grab from the shop to give them different abilities. It's a pretty relaxed game to play through, with you able to go at your own pace too which is nice for people who don't like to rush.

Having little creatures instead of weapons is an interesting mix-up for the genre, but it really is very much like Backpack Battles. Here though the upgrade mechanic is an additional nice touch, allowing you to experiment quite a lot with your overall build. So even if you went for the same creatures, you can still try out different ways to progress through the battles each time.

The main issue I observed was specific to the Linux version, with some of the little overlay videos being blank. A common problem with the Unity game engine, with its limited support of video codecs on Linux. Trivial bug to solve, so I've let the developer know and they're working on it.

From the developer: "We’re so excited to finally release NeoDuel: Backpack Monsters. This game has been a labour of love from our small team, and we can’t wait to see how players experiment with Cosmions, fusions, and different builds. A big thank you to our devoted community of Duelists for all the support and feedback during development. We couldn’t have done without you." — Bahadır, Lead Developer at DiceHit Games.
