Have an NVIDIA GPU? Use GE-Proton? You should probably make sure you're on GE-Proton 9-15 which was just released. This is a "hotfix" build to clear up some problems from the previous recent release.

From the changelog:

Proton:

  • Updated wine to latest bleeding edge -- fixes regression in video playback from 9-14.
  • Updated dxvk to latest git -- fixes regression which causes black textures and stuttering on NVIDIA cards.
  • Updated vkd3d-proton to latest git.
  • import upstream changes for lsteamclient.
  • update xalia to 0.4.4.

Protonfixes:

  • Remove deprecated workaround for Total War Rome 2.

What's GE-Proton? A special community-build of Proton, nothing to do with the official Proton from Valve. You'll find GE adds specific fixes that Valve often can't (due to legal reasons) but GE comes with less testing and support. Usually you only want to use it for specific games until they work properly in Valve's Proton, or for using Proton outside of Steam like in Heroic and Lutris. See more about Proton in my guide.

Just tested this update out on Deadlock (in which I had been experiencing severe stuttering, specially when dying / spectating other players) and DJMAX Respect V (where pacing / frametime is mandatory for maintaining perfect rhythm) and I must say, this makes the presentation soooooo much smoother!! I'm so happy to finally have a flawless NVIDIA on Linux setup :)

It's very good to see how often subsequent updates come out. Great share, thanks ;)
Can I use it on Lutris without issues?...

Not yet. Lutris is still working on implementing ULWGL. Unfortunately, GloriousEggroll stopped updating Wine-GE prematurely (IMO) so we are stuck with 8-26. ULWGL (Unified Linux Wine Game Launcher) appears to have been renamed to or nicknamed UMU launcher. You can monitor it's status at

I don't understand why they want to replace something that already WORKS with something that doesn't works yet..
Someone else should countinue the wine-GE project.

I agree completely.

Because umu is just an entirely better system. It's not their fault Lutris has been slow to get support and an update out for it, they can't hold themselves back for someone else's software.

Name me an alternative to LUTRIS with the same clic'n'play experience.

Depends what for, I use Heroic personally.

But that's just it, Liam. It's not just Lutris that's being slow on this. Heck, as far as I know, Heroic is no further along than Lutris. Check my link. From what I can see, there has been no movement on the project itself since April.

I agree that UMU will be a better system but it's not fair to impune Lutris for this. I mean, I understand that it is going to take time to build the database and other infrastructure -- but why were the updates for Wine-GE stopped before UMU was ready for primetime? That's the decision I don't understand.

I only mentioned Lutris since that was the original comment, Heroic works fine for me and is updated far more regularly too.
