While it really didn't need it, October 31 will give us Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered as announced during Sony's State of Play. Yes really, it's happening, it's a real thing.

Hold on a minute, it's how old? No, it can't be. How is it 7 years since the original release? Is time speeding up as I get older or what?

The current version of the game works well on Desktop Linux with Proton, and is Steam Deck Verified. However, the new Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered might come with some issues, as Sony confirmed in their blog post it will have the PlayStation Overlay, which is what completely breaks online play for Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT.

Hopefully it's not forced, and perhaps it will have an opt-out for Steam Deck like God of War Ragnarök, which means Desktop Linux users may need the launch option.

Here's the trailer anyway:

Sony say it will have "over 10 hours of re-recorded conversation, mocap and countless graphical improvements that bring the game to the same visual fidelity as its critically acclaimed sequel Horizon Forbidden West". You will also see various upgrades to characters that brings "them in line with current generation advances in character models and rendering"

For the PC version there will be support for NVIDIA DLSS 3 and AMD FSR 3.1 with frame generation, along with various accessibility features that were first introduced in Horizon Forbidden West.

The new edition will be a $9.99 upgrade for existing owners on PC.

Quoting: StellaWhat is there to remaster? [...]
Well, it would be nice if they'd remove the phone-home-feature and their atrocious data collecting policy. Not getting my hopes up though...

A totally unnecessary Remaster + mandatory PSN account linking = No, thanks.

That's how I feel. At first I thought the rumors of this remaster were just satire, like the studio was making fun of the entire industry with all the remasters everywhere. But nope. Real life.

Also hilarious because I guess this means they have absolutely no other constructive or original ideas coming anytime soon? I guess after Concord lost them a nice cool $200 mil, they have to try and scrape a few pennies out of a remaster of a game that needs no remaster.

Looking at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFzO5JbQO6c they seem to have made the colors more vibrant and varied, and for once I can say I do see the improvement. There seem to be other added details to make the world seem more lively as well. Probably wouldn’t run on my machine anyway, but maybe I’ll grab it for a dollar in a few years after I’ve upgraded, if the PSN nonsense has been dealt with.

Appears that you can also get the PC version of the remaster for $10 if you have the original game on PS4.

Not too shabby considering I got the original game on PS4 when they were giving it away for free a few years back. Though I'm obviously not going to buy it if it doesn't work on my computer.

Looks like the Steam version came out 4 years ago (going by the Steam page). Was it 7 years ago for the original Playstation release? According to Metacritic, yes - there was a 3.5 year gap between.

It seems like all the games coming from PS are going to have the stupid account linking...
That's a shame. I was quite happy to hear that titles are getting ported, especially because I really want to play Ghost of Tsushima... but I am not going to get any ports if it means that I have to put up with another account.

I am so tired of Sony remastering games that are less than a decade old.
Zero Dawn is still a relatively fresh game and takes a decent computer to run consistently.

Playstation overlay? You mean they're moving their whole ecosystem to PC now?
Yet we still don't have a new WipEout game, no Killzone, none of the big IPs that made Sony successful. No word about any of them since the PS Vita. And yet they want to expand further to PC. What are they thinking? WHAT is there to bring to PC? Unless they're doing a 180 and bringing back everything they killed with the PS4 then there's no point. Helldivers getting a sequel was probably the only time they actually got that right and then they managed to screw it up anyway post-launch by roofing customers.

Some of the details shown in the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster are improved and sure the lighting is better. But it just looks like every other game ever now. For what reason? Couldn't you have spent that developer money on an IP that actually needed it?

Curious if the PSN bypass mod will work with it. The original repo had been taken down by the author, but other people have reuploaded it since, hopefully they'll be able to update it if/when it breaks.
The original version is what, 80gb? In my experience remasters are around triple in size. So this will be a 200+gb download.
And then unpack it to 250-300gb.
