Stardate 03/09/2024, the Steam Space Exploration Fest has begun so you better set course for the deals. Make it so, engage, hit it or whatever.
We seem to be practically never without some sort of event going on, it's hard to keep up with them all isn't it? One minute it's for tower defense games, the next for fighting games and now for space exploration and everything that comes somehow close to it. Just look at how many events are still to come!
You know the drill — there's discounts and demos live right now to try out and a new fancy event trailer:
Direct Link
Some absolute must-haves of the genre are on sale including:
- Stellaris - 75% off
- Kerbal Space Program - 75% off
- X4: Foundations - 70% off
- Elite Dangerous - 70% off
- No Man's Sky - 60% off
- EVERSPACE 2 - 60% off
Additionally, maybe go take a look at Liberation (50% off), a retro space adventure where you pilot a elite stealth ship to bring down an evil galactic federation. The developer emailed about it, as it's made entirely on Linux with open source tooling. Inspired by classic science fiction such as Blake's 7 and the original 1984 BBC Micro version of Elite.
The event runs through till September 9th at 10am PT / 5pm UTC. See the full event page on Steam.
Have you found a particularly good deal? Want to show off the latest games that will sit in your library backlog for you to play "eventually" (yeah, sure you will!), be sure to leave a comment.

Well thats a lie....... There was a robot fest not that long ago..........Hahaha! And the robots in the Dinos vs. Robots Fest had more restrictions on them than the dinosaurs did!
Seriously, though, they're not even repeating it next year.

Just bought Everspace 2 which is at its historically lowest price at 19.99 EUR!
Awesome game! I haven't played it since they migrated to ue5 and made some balance changes, but I had a blast with it shortly after it came out. It's absolutely GORGEOUS. Sometimes I'd just like flying around and not even doing much of anything.
A game I have had wish-listed for forever just released to 1.0 just in time for this fest! I highly recommend you try it out if you're a fan of the genre.

Found about that one in this steam fest and looks cool as I didn't play/knew the previous one. I also see another game with cult following, Starsector, which seems to be referenced every other review and which I never knew about.
This last one is not in steam, but it has modding and apparently linux versions too.
I also see another game with cult following, Starsector, which seems to be referenced every other review and which I never knew about.I can add to the praise auf Starsector, it is absolutely fantastic, and the similarities to Starcom popped up in my brain too. The thing in Starsector is that you can do absolotely crazy fleet battle with interesting mechanics and are free to do whatever you like (quite like Sid Meiers Pirates back in the C64 days). The only drawback is that it has no multiplayer (and never will).
Anyone remember Escape Velocity Nova? I totally get vibes from this Starcom here, too. Might give it a try!
I've now ended up checking out both of these and will probably end up getting at least one if not both. Thanks.A game I have had wish-listed for forever just released to 1.0 just in time for this fest! I highly recommend you try it out if you're a fan of the genre.
