Can someone tell Hello Games it's all good now, everyone is over the poor launch? Actually don't, I want to see just how far they will keep pushing No Man's Sky. The latest update is a goodie too.

The just launched Aquarius Update is the perfect addition after the big water overhaul in Worlds Part I bringing with it a whole lot of little bits of fun. Some of what's been added includes fishing, a fishing skiff, messages in bottles, a fishing expedition, a new diving suit, fish traps, new cooking recipes, a deep-water jetpack, a huge new fish variety and more.

Speaking about the update the developer said: "Something people really loved in the Worlds update was the new water technology – tons of players were posting videos of themselves just chilling at the water’s edge. One piece of fan art in particular stopped us in our tracks, of a player lazily fishing from their wing of their starship. This art, and others like it, was right at the heart of the inspiration behind the Aquarius update."

Once again, they say more will follow, so they're clearly not done with No Man's Sky just yet.

I find this trend of adding fishing to games a bit fishy.
In a world where superluminal interstellar travel is routine, the humble fishing rod remains the most efficient way to catch fish.
Gotta have this:

Here Fishy!

There's a mod in Valheim that uses this. (makes fishing hilarious)

Fishing is such a weird thing to add, particularly when there are a lot of other things that could use an overhaul. I suppose it's good for immersion and when you just wanna fart around and do something inconsequential for a while in-game. You could cook your catch (new recipes for that), although cooking in NMS is especially pointless, given you don't eat and the process isn't any more fun than throwing stuff in a refiner.

Not that I'm not gonna play through the expedition though.

The deep sea diving suit is particularly amusing though, given there are no deep seas in the game.

Actually makes sense, worlds part I update was a success in terms of nr. of players, so they get to flesh out the added water and do a smaller thematic expedition around it, while keeping fan-base happy without having to wait for the worlds part II.

At the same time, in the previous update they told most of the water stuff had to do with optimizations and developments on the Light No Fire engine that were back-ported to No Man Sky. NMS fishing serves as a safe test bed to develop (and try to go crazy) with fishing so it will properly work later on their survival new game.

No Man Sky is one of the top played games on Steam Deck!
By the way, checking the Steam page, it's the first time I see a STEAM DECK TOP PLAYED header. Is this new?

EDIT: typos

Wait... didnt they JUST release a massive update? What is this, like the 11th free content update? They are seriously investing in future goodwill for Light No Fire, aren't they?
Still no rivers, or water flowing in to empty spaces...

I love *all* the improvements. Some are amazing as hell. But..
