Valve released another small update to SteamOS 3.6 Beta for Steam Deck, bringing two small but important fixes as we're firmly on the road to the stable release.

Here's the changes in SteamOS 3.6.14:

General

  • Security fix for Flatpak (CVE-2024-42472).

Developer

  • Fixed nested desktop crashing on launch.

Looking up the Flatpak security issue: Prior to versions 1.14.0 and 1.15.10, a malicious or compromised Flatpak app using persistent directories could access and write files outside of what it would otherwise have access to, which is an attack on integrity and confidentiality. It's been fixed in Flatpak 1.14.10 and Flatpak 1.15.10.

You can read more about the issue on GitHub that was reported back in early August by Collabora engineer Simon McVittie.

Don't expect Flatpak's sandbox to protect you – is my modus operandi.
