In news that might hopefully be good for Steam Deck and Desktop Linux players with Proton, both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest are getting offline modes.

Ubisoft announced this yesterday (September 10th), as they're clearly taking notes on how they badly handled The Crew when shutting it off and all players losing access to it, which ended up creating the Stop Killing Games initiative.

At the end of the Ubisoft news post was this notice:

Finally, Ubisoft Ivory Tower committed to long-term access for both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest, ensuring that both games will be playable for many years to come, including in an offline mode coming in the future. Players who still haven't picked up The Crew 2 can do so for just one dollar from September 10-24, and will be able to unlock four different vehicles with only one Crew Credit. From now until September 23, you can save up to 70% on The Crew Motorfest or 98% on The Crew 2.

Currently though, both games are broken on Steam Deck / Linux with Proton, due to the anti-cheat. So I'm hopefully at the very least the offline mode will actually work, since there would be no reason to have that part of each blocked.

I've reached out to Ubisoft to see if they plan to get either working.

To be honest, they could give me the game for free and I wouldn’t take it. I just can’t handle another client.
It’s the same with ea and blizzard 🤷‍♂️

Hmmm... I naively assumed that "offline" would go hand in hand with not relying on their stupid launcher anymore...

Ye I don’t blame you for assuming that. But the steam page says it needs a launcher and I assume that they won’t remove the need of ubisoft client to play offline, the game still needs to be connected to there store, but if you got the game now and there is no launcher needed for offline it’s a great step by Ubisoft and you made a good deal 😀
