Solo developer ARASLANIX are working on WINCH IT OUT, a physics-based driving-platformer, a game that reminds me of a simpler time with lots of different Flash games.

You've no doubt played lots and lots of platformers, but what about a platformer where you're a car? Some oldies may remember the classic stunt bike Flash games, well this thoroughly reminded me of it, only a fair bit more modern and also quite a bit trickier. The developer was directly inspired by the old Flash lot too, mentioning:

I'm a big fan of physics-based driving games, Mudrunner, Trials, and the old motocross games from the Flash era (good old times!) I've been waiting to see more games in this genre. So I decided to create one myself with that Weighty and Off-Roady feeling I’ve been craving. Hope it fills the gap for you too!

Okay, nostalgia trip out of the way. What the heck is this then?

The developer said "If you're tired of the same old Gas-and-Go 2D driving games and want a more challenging experience, this one's for you". You drive through Deserts, Forests, Mountains, Dungeons, and more with each biome having its own unique physics-based challenges and it's pretty tricky.

What makes it interesting is how you have manual control of the gears so you have full control over the speed and power, which you'll need to constantly shift about. Then there's the key with the name of the game, the winch you'll need to make great use of too.

Features:

  • Manual Transmission: Full control over Power and Speed using a Manual Gear Shifter.
  • Unique Abilities: Each Car comes with a special set of abilities designed to solve specific challenges. From your trusty Winch to Boost, Dash, Chain, Glide and everything in between!
  • Grounded: There are No Backflips and you can't rotate the car in the air because it's weird!
  • Various Biomes: Deserts , Forests , Mountains, Dungeons, and more.. Each has its own set of physics-based challenges that will test your skills (and nerves!) to the max.
  • Challenging: You’ll need to think and strategize to navigate each terrain.

Interested? You can follow it along on Steam. It has Native Linux support and is due to release in October. There's also a demo currently available.
