Set in the very far future, a time where we've conquered the stars, Year Unknown is a story-focused exploration game about finding purpose.

With visuals and a story inspired by works such as BLAME! and Naissancee, the developer mentioned that it was developed on Linux with almost all open source tools. Just recently they announced a release date of October 7th and you can check out their trailer below:

A story-based exploration game about the very far future, after humanity spreads across the stars, achieves peace, and finds a way to preserve the universe forever. With the help of two Artificial Intelligences, explore the conquered universe and uncover your purpose in it.

Story

The universe has been turned into a database of humanity's knowledge, art, and ideas. You wake up in this universe, with your only companions being two Artificial Intelligences who help you understand the data in it.

But something else is calling you: a distress call from the center of the universe. The stagnant universe is breaking down, and there may be no way to save it.

Made with Godot Engine, the developer also mentioned how after release they "plan to open source it and turn some parts into useful addons".

Reminds me of an old game called Fugue In Void, but with an actual story.
I respect someone with a big vision. For the record, though, I'm pretty sure the library I work in is not destroying the universe.

Just tried the demo. Warning, it's very short, and ends kind of abruptly. But then, the full game is supposed to be quite short so that makes sense.

It's interesting, and I'm interested in playing it when it releases, but the aesthetic is an extremely simplified version of brutalism. So don't expect to see much detail, even at a large scale. It's striking, but simple to the point of almost being bland. It's not something I could lose myself in if it weren't for the story, as with the aforementioned Fugue In Void from my other comment.
For the record, though, I'm pretty sure the library I work in is not destroying the universe.
Yeah, that's exactly what i would tell people if i'd work in a library that is about to destroy the universe.
