Clock Tower released originally in 1995 for the SNES and later for other systems, but it was never officially translated and supported outside of Japan until now with Clock Tower: Rewind. You'll need Proton to play this one on Linux systems.

Not one I'm actually familiar with directly so I'll let the official blurb speak: "Turn back the clock for one of the pioneers of the survival-horror genre. Translated and released outside of Japan for the first time, Clock Tower: Rewind is a revival of the terror-inducing 16-bit classic that dares you to explore the haunting confines of the Barrows family manor. As teenage orphan Jennifer, you must search every disturbing corner to find items, reveal secrets, and discover ways to evade Scissorman, a murderous, unstoppable, shears-wielding psychopath."

Features:

  • The survival-horror classic, Clock Tower, officially translated and brought out of Japan for the first time
  • Choose from Original mode or Rewind mode, which features numerous gameplay additions and quality-of-life refinements
  • Run, hide, and survive as you attempt to evade the psychotic Scissorman
  • Atmospheric 2D art, detailed animations, and haunting sound effects augment the tense point-and-click gameplay
  • Multiple endings and randomized gameplay elements maximize replayability (and jump scares)
  • New animated opening, motion-comics with VO, and vocal theme song performed by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn
  • Featuring an art gallery, music player, behind-the-scenes creator interview, save states, and other modern inclusions

Nice to see more classics available to a wider audience.

I remember this game on the PS1 back in the days but never bought it because I was slowly playing less games during the time but now kicking myself for not buying it since it's gone up in value.

Anyways, the game itself is pretty cool if you're into solving puzzles while trying to evade the Scissorman. Also, I like the fact that they kept the graphics intact for this game instead of remastering it like other companies do nowadays.

Never heard of it before, but I'm getting Suspiria/Argento vibes from the trailer! On the wishlist it goes!

If anyone's familiar with the fan-made translation and quality-of-life patches from years gone by, apparently they brought those people in to work on this re-release, so it should be a good time.

Was there a Clock Tower anime, or did they do that just for this release trailer?

That's all been done for this new release!

Loved this game when I played a translated rom back in the 2000s. Definitely will pick it up!
In case anyone's interested since Halloween is upon us, this game is very loosely based on an 80s Italian horror film called Phenomena. It starred Jennifer Connelly and is a pretty good film. The character in this game was designed to look like her.

I'm a little disappointed to hear that, because I immediately wanted to watch a Clock Tower anime when I saw those bits.
