The KDE team have today released the Plasma 6.2 desktop environment bringing with it a "friendlier, more accessible and smarter environment". This is the same UI used on the Steam Deck Desktop Mode!
What to expect from this release? Here's some highlights:
- A whole lot of new features for users of drawing tablets.
- More complete support for the Wayland colour management protocol enabled it by default.
- Power management improvements like overriding applications that block sleep.
Features continued:
- Overhauled accessibility options.
- Various improvements to the look and feel of the UI.
- Lots of bug fixes and various other smaller updates.
The once a year request for donations pop-up is also live as of this release.
I'm still currently on Plasma 5.27, so I'm really looking forward to the next Kubuntu release with 24.10 that will at least get me up to Plasma 6.1. One of the benefits of being just a bit behind is seeing all the new stuff get stable before moving over to it. I'm excited! The KDE team have been doing some stellar work.
What are you most happy to see in Plasma 6.2? Leave a comment and let me know!
See all in the announcement and release notes.
They're working through these issues: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland_Known_Significant_Issues#Graphics_Tablet_Support
And also great to see...whatever's happening with colour management.
Quoting: PyrateDoes anyone know if 6.2 will make it to the Fedora 41 release? Love KDE Plasma.Considering 6.1 was backported to Fedora 40, even though it came out a few months afterwards, I strongly suspect the answer is YES.
KDE guys are doing good work.
Quoting: ShadowXeldronThat was well timed. I've actually been considering a distrohop on my laptop to something KDE-based recently. I've just installed Plasma on top of Mint 21 for Wayland support but it's only KDE 5 which does irk me a bit. I haven't currently got the means to back up all my data though which has held me back a fair bit.Since Mint doesn't really support KDE in the first place, if you're going to install it couldn't you install any KDE you wanted to?
See more from me
