You've probably played card-matching memory games before, but have you played them in the setting of a dungeon-crawling deck-builder before? Pairs & Perils has a fun idea.

Here you have to try and memorize all the cards on the table to match up weapons and characters to attack enemies, while avoiding damaging trap cards that will force you to skip a turn. There's enemies to battle who have a turn countdown until they attack, so you have to defeat them with card matching before you die.

After each turn you earn coins to go into the shop where you're able to buy up new special cards in the form of relics to have an effect all the time, plus cards you can consume for special effects during a battle. Thanks to this system there's plenty of ways to go through a run.

Various enemies you face have special abilities too and some of them can be quite annoying to get in the way of you matching your cards, or even destroying your prized relic that's been helping you push through a run. Overall a nice little twist on the deck-building dungeon-crawler idea that I'm keen to see more from as the demo is promising.

There's a demo on Steam now with a Native Linux version. I played through it for a while today and it works great.
