Valve released a fresh update for Proton Experimental on October 7th, that pulled in some needed fixes for various Windows games on Linux / Steam Deck.

Listed as now playable with this release:

  • Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

We have another update to the open source project Xalia included with version 0.4.4, this project provides a gamepad UI for traditional desktop applications (good for launchers). Valve have expanded this launcher support to also now include:

  • Trackmania United Forever
  • Trackmania Nations Forever
  • Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • WARRIORS ALL-STARS

Fixed Proton Experimental regressions (bugs that appeared in a previous Proton Experimental release):

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider is playable again in DX12 mode.
  • Fixed Final Fantasy XVI having low FPS due to excessive DLL lookup.
  • Fixed Final Fantasy XVI not showing displays in settings.
  • Fixed Mary Skelter 2 stuttering on launch.
  • Fixed Unreal Engine Crash Report Client not launching properly.

Fixed Proton 9.0 regressions (bugs that appeared from Proton 9.0):

  • Fablecraft is playable again.

Proton Experimental is the testing-ground for future stable updates of Proton which is currently at Proton 9.0-3 that was released September 19th. This will show up as an update to Proton Experimental in your Steam Downloads. See more in my full Proton guide.
