Shadows of the Afterland from Aruma Studios will release in 2025 and now you've got a fresh chance to try out this spooky comedy adventure with a major demo update.

More about it: Shadows of the Afterland is a supernatural adventure sprinkled with humor, taking players on a captivating journey through the worlds of the living and the great beyond. Set in 1960s Madrid, Shadows of the Afterland challenges players to unravel the mystery of a soul bearing the memories of Carolina, a woman who perplexingly has yet to be born.

The demo update includes two new characters, fresh animations and some addition dialogue. Plus "substantial" quality-of-life improvements like better navigation, a smarter map, new location notifications, better performance, enhanced font rendering, better gamepad support and much more.

From the developer: “We’re thrilled to finally offer players a glimpse into the mystical and eerie universe we’ve crafted in Shadows of the Afterland. This demo presents a taste of the challenges and story waiting for them,” shared Rubén López, the creative mind behind the story and puzzle design. “The team has poured their hearts into creating a vibrant, detailed world, designed with exquisite pixel art, stunning animations, and a soundtrack that perfectly complements the game’s atmosphere,” added Silvia Izquierdo, who oversees production.

Shadows of the Afterland has Native Linux support with the demo and full support at release. Go check out the demo now.

The original demo put the game on my wish list. So to be honest, I don't feel I'd want to play the new demo. I know enough. :)

Plot twist: Carolina turns out to be twins, "North" and "South".
