Another Steam Client Beta release is live for October 4th that includes a bunch of quick bug fixes for desktop and Steam Deck. Since it's a normal Client (the Steam App) Beta update, it's the same for Steam Deck and desktop.

Here's all the changes:

General

  • Fixed Steam not being able to connect to SteamVR with error "SteamVR Failed to initialize: VR API not loaded (101)"

Game Recording

  • Fixed a regression from October 2nd's beta client which was causing some recordings to incorrectly fall back to using the CPU to encode video while playing a game, resulting in an increase in CPU usage.
  • Fixed an issue causing exporting a clip to file, clipboard or chat to fail or sometimes crash.
  • Fixes some cases where the clip export dialog did not appear.

Steam Input

  • Fixed a regression from the October 2nd Beta Update which caused per-controller preferences to not get loaded in some cases.

macOS

  • Fixed regression causing some games to be repeatedly restarted after launching.

We're probably not far off having the Game Recording feature roll out to the stable client now. After Steam Families was officially launched in September, this is the next big one coming.

Have you noticed a particular bug lately you want to see solved?

It would certainly be nice if Steam didn't crash every time I exit Forza Horizon 4.
Biggest annoying bug lately is when I am about to buy a game a random voice says “You have 1000 unfinished games, do you really need another?” 🤔

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Did I already tel complain that the German translation of IT Crowd does say:
"Have you tried turning it on and off again?"?!?

My bigest problem is, that my steam index always crashes 3 seconds after start it, then I need press "restart healmset", start steamvr again and then it works. It taked me ages to figure it out. I am pretty sure, that not all users have discovered the trick to make it work.

I have the same problem, and even on windows too. So it just seems like valve vr drivers are terrible in general.

My Valve Index starts without issues currently. Sometimes rarely I have gotten an issue requiring restarting of some stuff, but more often than not my cable is not plugged in properly (since I disconnect and reconnect it for each use).
