Proxy Studios, developer of the popular Warhammer 40,000: Gladius, have announced their next 4x strategy game ZEPHON will release on November 8th. ZEPHON will have Native Linux support. Disclosure: the developer sent me a pre-release key.

If you think it looks like Gladius, you would be right, since both are evolutions over Proxy Studios first game Pandora: First Contact from 2013. Here you control the survivors of humanity in a near-future apocalypse of alien origin. Pick a path between the indifferent abominations of the Voice and the uncaring automata of ZEPHON, with city management, turn-based tactical combat, unholy research, diplomatic maneuvering, and branching narrative quests. Gather your allies and pick your actions wisely.

Speaking over email the developer said to me: "Our previous game, Gladius, has been played by over 1.5 million players. Zephon now has in excess of 500 k views on YouTube (including 100 k on the IGN gameplay trailer) and more than 100 k wishlists on Steam a month before release.

In Zephon we did some fun stuff to tackle the "endgame problem" in 4X games, leaned heavily into Souls-like world-building and added narrative design elements to reward players who play multiple sessions (inspired by Hades and co.)."

You can wishlist and follow on Steam.

I liked Pandora: First Contact. I was looking for an Alpha Centauri-type game, and it came out and so did Civ: Beyond Earth, and neither of them quite felt like what I really wanted. But I played both a fair amount, and played and enjoyed Pandora about as much as Civ: BE, which is impressive considering we're talking MUCH smaller budget.

So I'll definitely think about giving this a shot.

Gladius is amazing. The only warhammer 40k game to have 11 playable factions.
The Linux binaries work really well to this day.

When I see that kind of games today, I only see a $400+ choo-choo-train of DLCs coming on the side.

I still have to finish my Stellaris choo-choo-train that is never stopping. I am not rich enough to buy another of those.
Decided to reinstall Gladius recently, but it just does not seem to work for me any more. Have tried, native, proton.
