With a firm focus on gamers, AMD have revealed the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor will be coming on November 7th.

AMD say they have re-engineered it with the 64MB cache memory now below the processor, putting the core complex die (CCD) closer to your cooler to make the chip run cooler than the previous generation Ryzen 7 7800X3D. As for performance differences AMD are claiming an average of an 8% improvement over the previous generation, and up to 20% faster than an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.

Main Specs:

Model Cores / Threads Boost / Base Frequency Total Cache TDP SEP
(USD)
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8C / 16T Up to 5.2 / 4.7 GHz 104MB 120W $479

"We continue to push the boundaries of performance and innovation in desktop computing, delivering solutions that exceed the needs of gamers and creators alike," said Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager, computing and graphics, AMD. "With the introduction of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, built on our advanced ‘Zen 5’ architecture, we are elevating gaming performance like never before. Featuring innovative 2nd AMD Gen 3D V-Cache technology, this processor reflects our commitment to excellence and our ability to innovate in ways that redefine the industry.”

2600X to a 9800X3D... That's a big upgrade!
I'm more interested in the performance of the 9900X3D and 9950X3D. Hopefully the cache performance is better this time on the 16 core chip. But it'll be cool to see what the 9800X3D can do with the Paul's Hardware and Gamers Nexus reviews.

Already bought other parts for new PC build, now I am just waiting for this 9800X3D.
For this year I will stick with RTX 2080 Super and in Q1 2025 will buy new gen GPU from AMD.
I've been wanting a 7900X3D, so perhaps there will be a %40+ off sale in the future (wishful thinking).

Also I'm pretty sure my current 7800X3D has a unstable iGPU for first 20mins of system power-up (yeah weird issue). So if a sale happens its an excuse to fix that issue (not waiting for RMA with no CPU to use)

Just hope lightning doesn't strike twice.

I still have a Athlon X4 860K running. Just found out it very recently had its tenth birthday. Congratulations!

Thought about upgrading many times, but after letting it settle a few days, I always found I don't need it. The only thing coming to my mind which would really benefit from an upgrade is Factorio I guess.
