Recently we had the news that the classic Croc Legend of the Gobbos was getting a remaster, and then we learned it would be a GOG exclusive. Now we at least know it will release in December, although they're not giving us an exact date as to when just yet.

More about it: Croc Legend of the Gobbos follows the heartwarming journey of an endearing, humble little crocodile equipped with only his iconic backpack and a wiggly butt as he sets off on his quest to rescue the Gobbos from the clutches of the nefarious Baron Dante and his hordes of Dantinis. Croc must platform his way across a series of unique worlds by running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and tail spinning to save the Gobbos from captivity.

From the press release: “From the outset, our vision has been to release Croc only when we’re happy with it. We are speed-running towards a December 2024 release and are very close to being complete. However, if we need to add a little more polish, we won’t hesitate to do so. After waiting 27 years, we trust that our dedicated fans can wait a few weeks longer,” said Jez San, Founder of Argonaut Games.

San continued: "The Croc remaster aims to reignite the imaginations of players with its enhanced HD graphics, updated modern controls, and an authentic gameplay experience that will transport players back to the golden age of gaming."

At release it will be $29.99.

Since it won't be on Steam you'll need to use something like the Heroic Games Launcher to run it on Linux desktop and Steam Deck.

As much as I have genuine, unironic sympathy that goes beyond nostalgia for this game... TR1-3 with all the side/expansion stuff is the same price, so this places Croc... a little bit outside of that impulse buy sweet spot I feel they should've targeted. Especially on GOG, i.e. a more niche platform. I appreciate when someone values their work, but...

Let's hope that GOG exclusivity money funds Croc 2, at least. Maybe it already has.
