In a press release shared today, Kojima Productions announced they now have full control over the DEATH STRANDING IP. The game has also landed on Amazon Luna.

A good time to try it, with a sequel on the way, and honestly it's just an amazing experience. I completed it across a mixture of Steam Deck and desktop Linux playtime and really thoroughly enjoyed it. There's truly nothing else like it with the strange blend of game mechanics.

Kojima Productions mentioned they "will continue its focus on bringing their award-winning IP, "DEATH STRANDING" to more platforms and audiences" and simply that they also "today confirmed that the studio now has full ownership of the DEATH STRANDING IP".

If you have an Amazon Prime subscription, you'll also be able to play it free on Amazon Luna from December 1st for a limited time, after you'll need to subscribe to Luna+ to continue (where it's also available right now). Surprisingly, it even released on Xbox today too.

Really hoping that Death Stranding 2 isn't exclusive to PlayStation for too long, it deserves to be played on PC. And thanks to Valve's Proton I expect it to work quite well on Linux at release.

Also 50% off on Steam until November 11 if you want to grab it cheaps right now.

This is great news!
Death Stranding is my all time favorite game. The world building, story, acting, cut scenes, visuals, and gameplay are all exceptional.

Every time I think I want to play this I look at reviews that call it a backpack management simulator. I don't know what to believe.

It's a backpack management simulator in the same sense that a role playing game is a dialog simulator.

Here's my Steam review if you want a more comprehensive answer:

And in the sense that Ico is a game that's entirely escort mission, Shadow of the Colossus is a game that's entirely boss fight, and Minecraft is a game about moving blocks. As in, reductive to the point of uselessness.

In common with those games Death Stranding is a game that's focused on the experience for the player rather than solely on the gameplay loop.

Whether rcrit would enjoy it is impossible to say (and if they're swayed against it by random reviews by numpties I'd suspect not) since it really needs a significant time and emotional investment from the player - the tutorial is longer than most games at about 10 hours.
