Valve did a bit of a woops here, as they recently accidentally leaked the designs for what looks like their upcoming Steam Controller 2 and a new VR controller that is likely to come with the long leaked Deckard VR headset.
This is all speculation as always from leaks, as what we've seen might not even get released. As we saw from the Steam Deck, Valve go through a lot of iterations on their hardware before release.
Spotted by SteamDB developer Pavel Djundik on Bluesky, the newer Steam Controller 2 looks like everything I wanted. Here's a slightly upscaled version of what they found for what's code-named Ibex.
Looks rather nice, and I'm really happy to see dual thumbsticks and thumbpads, much more like the Steam Deck. Clearly Valve have taken notes about how much people love the inputs on the Steam Deck. My only concern there is how thick it looks, so it will be very interesting to eventually get my hands on it to see how it feels.
According to Djundik on Bluesky, here's how the leak happened:
The way it leaked is funny, [they] put "freetodownload" on the SteamVR app for anonymous accounts to access, which made all the depots accessible, and one of the depots was the contents for deckard/roy.
What do you think? Will you buy one?

No question, will buy.
My two Steam Controller 1’s getting a bit old.
Hoping some of the games that dropped Steam Controller support after Valve said the first one was on its last day’s bring it back.
While Steam Input is handy mapping things to the thumb pad. Gets so tedious doing it for every single game.
lucky you, having two. i had one, it was my best controller. my dad broke the usb in half transporting my tower while evacuating for a huge fire. and i couldn't just get a new one since they stopped making them....
in hindsight i shouldnt have left it plugged in but i also didn't expect him to set heavy shit on top of my tower haha.

I did a panic and bought a second one just before they pulled it from sale. :)
You can probably pick one up on eBay / Amazon in reasonable nick, but you could be paying more then Steam Controller 2 retail price will be.
Additionally, four buttons under the pad (that's pretty much certain). Triggers similar to those on PS5 would also be welcome.
If we're talking about software, they could finally allow for proper text formatting in the description for controller settings. You can't even make a new line there!

I did the same :D
I still have the second one unpacked. I don't remember if there were batteries included, I wouldn't want them to spill and flood it. On the other hand, I don't feel like opening it now.
Personally, I don't need the right analog stick, so it could be gone. The greatest strength of this controller is replacing this stick with its touch counterpart.Well, couldn't agree less with this. I never ended up using my SC1 becuase it lacked a right thumbstick. The haptic pad replacement is a poor and frustrating substitute in most twinstick shooters. Love that the Steam deck has a full set.
