Finished what's available so far for the excellent retro-inspired FPS Selaco? You may want to jump back in to test the Special Campaign mode Beta.

This new mode is their answer to what other games would call New Game+ giving you the option to replay the campaign with "unique endgame content and randomization, including new enemy types, a weapon rarity and trait system, random encounter mechanics, and more" which sounds pretty awesome.

Once you pick to play this mode you then get access to a whole lot of options:

Random Encounters

Spawns additional new enemies in real-time
  • Add Random Encounters
  • Weaken Random Encounter Enemies

Random Spawns

Spawns additional stuff while the level is being loaded.
The follow options have 6 settings. 'None', 'Less', 'Normal', 'More', 'Way More' and 'Ridiculous'

  • Additional Traps
  • Additional VAC-Bots
  • Additional Item Crates
  • Additional Hazards
  • Additional Ammo and Items
  • Additional Health and Armor
  • Additional Clutter Objects
  • Spawn Mystery Boxes
  • Spawn Allied NPC's (Locked until Chapter 2)

Additional Spawns

  • Allow Squad Leader Spawns
  • Allow Zombie Spawns
  • Allow Robot Spawns
  • (Exclusive) Allow Nailgunners
  • (Exclusive) Allow Stinger Soldiers
  • (Exclusive) Allow Crawler Queen

Weapons

  • Weapon Spawn Style [Vanilla, Swapped, Full Random]
  • Allow Heavy Weapons (Locked until Chapter 2)

Events

  • Allow Zombie Invasions
  • Allow Crawler Mine Ambushes
  • Allow Saw Drone Ambushes

Tier-Based Spawns

Adds Action-RPG Style Rarity Colors to both Enemies and Weapons. Higher rarity types are less frequent but are more powerful.

  • Enabled Tiered Weapons
  • Enable Tiered Enemies
  • Tiered Progression

Additional Settings

  • Randomize Food Items
  • Randomize Enemy Types
  • Randomize Enemy Locations
  • Randomize Pickup Amounts
  • Shuffle Item Pickup Locations
  • Start with all Tech Modules
  • Earthquakes
  • Skip Opening Scene

See all changes in their Steam announcement.

While it's not the focus of the Beta testing, they've also pulled in lots of enhancements to their build of the GZDoom game engine that includes a lot improvements to the core gameplay. They said more details on all that will be revealed properly when the Beta is over.

Currently their plan is to properly launch this towards the end of November into the stable version, while work continues on the next story chapters.

To try it on Steam you need to manually opt into the "publicbetabranch" Beta in the game properties.

Any news on GOG release?

The answer is in the Steam discussions for this game.

The game is already DRM-free so that shouldn't be an issue. I will continue to support Steam as Valve are investing heavily in Proton/wine and Linux-based games consoles. I'm struggling to think what GOG have done for Linux gaming in recent years.

That's not an answer really. Just feels like running around the issue. Why can't they release it on GOG?

From the developers:
In short - as long as the game is in EA it won't come on GOG because maintaining a game on different store takes up time and resources, something many indie developers doesn't have a lot of (many devs say the same thing actually).

It's AFTER the EA period that's in question whether or not it will. Most likely, at least the devs wants it, it just depends on GOG. Or rather, it did in the beginning. There's a thread on GOG if you want more background.

But yes, the game is DRM free already so it only depends on who you want the 30% share to go to; Steam now, or, wait until next year if it comes to GOG then, maybe.

The Selaco developers tried, but they have been ignored by GOG over and over:

Oh, it's still in early access? I've read already that they will try GOG release when it's not in early access state.
