Two big things have arrived. The first is that you can attempt to grab the sleek looking Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White right now, and the Steam Deck is now available in Australia.

The new Limited Edition White costs £599 / $679 and has the same specifications as the 1TB OLED. Although, you do get an exclusive Limited Edition White carrying case, startup movie, and virtual keyboard theme. Valve said they've "allocated stock proportionally across all regions, and restricting purchases to 1 unit per account" and that to purchase your account "must have made a Steam purchase before November 2024 and be in good standing".

Once it's gone, it's gone. So if you're somehow still on the fence, now might be the best time to get one of the coolest-looking models.

Australia also joins then list of supported regions for the Steam Deck officially now too. Prices for Australia are:

  • 256GB LCD: $649.00 AUD
  • 512GB OLED: $899.00 AUD
  • 1TB OLED: $1049.00 AUD

See more on the Steam Deck store page.

Will you be grabbing the White model, or are you in Australia buying officially? Let me know in the comments.

Yeah, gotta work out if I get this one or wait for Steam Deck 2 now, meanwhile New Zealand must be fuming as no mention of it in the release notes..

AFAIK Valve developers commented that their intended Steam Deck release cycle would be (estimated no less than 4 years intervals, certainly not following the gpu trend of 1 or 2 years) -- this presents fewer targets for game developers and allows purchasers to enjoy their handheld consoles longer instead of be obsoleted every year or two.

My NZ friends notoriously would fly for years to Aussy if they needed new gear (eg: Apple), so I've just been under the impression that 'It's a kiwi thang'.

My Australian friends, (me being Australian)
ascribe Australian nationality to any New Zealander who has success on the world stage. Something that annoys my New Zealand friends incredibly.

I have no doubt that Australian release includes NZ. Or is at least included in the postage.

Don't expect a Deck 2 any time soon. If you wait you'll miss out on a couple of years of Deck gaming.

I was playing FF7 Remake with HDR on my OLED Deck the other night at 60fps. If you wait, you might be able to play it at 90fps with the same settings and 800p.. two or more years from now.

Get one now, they're great devices, and they support Linux!

Nah, I don't think I'll be ordering it. Way too expensive. I bought a white skin instead and may swap the buttons of mine at some point to grey...

Oh, a “startup movie, and virtual keyboard theme” – time to order a new Steam Deck…

Spoiler, click me
Obviously not

It looks great, but not quite as pretty as the semi-translucent black one that was exclusive to the USA. I do wish they had started out by offering that one worldwide first, but I guess that would technically be against the "limited edition" idea behind it.
I guess I'll wait for the inevitable translucent purple one

Nothing, ever, is cooler than black.
