Stellar Blade, the story-driven action adventure that's currently a PlayStation exclusive, looks like it's coming to PC sometime in 2025.
As posted in their 3Q 2024 earnings report they said "The release is being considered within 2025. Considering recent trends such as Steam's expanding market share in the AAA game sector and the global success of Black Myth: Wukong, we expect the performance on PC to exceed that on consoles.".
It's also set for a NieR:Automata crossover DLC to release soon.
Hopefully it will work well with Valve's Proton on Desktop Linux and Steam Deck. Nice to see more console exclusives making their way onto Steam. Having to own a specific piece of gaming hardware to play a specific game just seems so backwards to me.
More about it:
Ravaged by strange, powerful creatures, Earth has been abandoned, and what is left of the decimated human race has fled to a Colony in outer space.
After travelling from the Colony, 7th Airborne Squad member EVE arrives on the desolate remains of our planet with a clear-cut mission: to save humankind by reclaiming Earth from the Naytiba – the malevolent force that has devastated it.
But as EVE tackles the Naytiba one-by-one, piecing together the mysteries of the past in the ruins of human civilization, she realizes that her mission is far from straightforward. In fact, almost nothing is as it seems…

What do you think? Are you excited to see it get a PC release? Will you be playing it on Linux? Let me know in the comments section.
Quoting: PyrateThis game shouldn't be plagued by Sony's nonsense DRM on PC, right? No it shouldn't since it wasn't made by Sony and it'll more likely be using whatever services Steam or any other storefront would provide. Sony only got timed exclusive rights to the game on PS5 but nothing else.
Quoting: omer666I'm pretty excited about this game releasing on PC, and I'll be buying it for sure. However, I don't know if I'm willing to go full price yet... If the port is solid, why notIt wouldn't be a surprise if this gets released at full price since the game isn't a year old yet. Also, it wouldn't be a surprise if there are bugs in the initial release like any other game nowadays.

Based on my experience and intuition, 20-30 years ago, PCs had approximately 25% of the market share, and consoles dominated the rest of the market. You can see this in how people are more likely to know of or talk about Sonic or Mario, compared to Wing Commander or Commander Keen. Doom II and Command & Conquer are the only PC/DOS games I can think of, which are still as well-known today as they were back then.
There's also this, from the article about console support on the Godot Engine blog:
QuoteWhile platforms like Steam are very easy to publish for, the reality is that most of the revenue from independent developers generally comes from consoles (this, of course, speaking of devs not focusing on mobile).

I think the reason why most of the revenue from independent developers come from consoles is because the hardware is locked down, which makes it easier for them to develop games without having to think about different configurations like on PC.
