Taking over from the original Unity-based project, UnderworldGodot is an engine recreation of Ultima Underworld and Ultima Underworld 2 in the Godot Engine. Great for preservation of some classics.

Writing on the now archived GitHub of the original Unity version, the developer noted the move to Godot was to "ensure the engine and software is more fully open source as well as avoiding risks due to Unity licencing changes". The project is a reboot and aims to "act more like the Underworld games originally worked".

Setting some expectations, the developer notes it's to be considered "pre-alpha" with no support, so don't expect it to be playable yet. It does have a long list of features already implemented, but there's also a lot still missing in it.

See more on the GitHub page. It's under the MIT license. The original games can be purchased via GOG.com.
