Valve confirmed back in August they still had plans to release SteamOS 3 outside of the Steam Deck for other handhelds, and it's nice to see they're still working away on the Steam Client for various hardware.
In October we saw an update for Gamescope from the community that improved configuring the display on the ASUS ROG Ally and the newer ASUS ROG Ally X, which was actually for the SteamOS-like Bazzite, one of the best ways to use Linux on various PC gaming handhelds.
Now the latest Steam Client Beta has a fix included for Steam Input directly on the ASUS ROG Ally X:
Game Recording
- Fixed audio desync that occurs for some videos when played in Steam or Chrome browser.
- Added settings button to allow resetting the game recording folder to the default path.
Steam Input
- Fixed duplicate controllers showing up on the ROG Ally X.
Remote Play
- Fixed store and community features being disabled when streaming to a Mac.
So at least for now if you're using some other form of Linux, like Bazzite, or Windows, with the latest Steam Client Beta the experience should be a little better without the duplicated controllers.
Any GamingOnLinux readers using Linux on an ASUS ROG Ally / Ally X? How are you getting on with it?
That said, it's over a year old now, so I might try dual-booting something soon. Do you have any recommendations?
