Over the weekend the Steam store from Valve managed to smash another record, something it has done repeatedly this year and it shows no sign of slowing down.
According to SteamDB the new concurrent user record of people online is 39,205,447 as of Sunday, December 8th at 2PM UTC. At the time 12,090,313 people were actually in-game as well.
Based on peak player counts, over the last 24 hours the top games were:
- Counter-Strike 2
- PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS
- Dota 2
- Path of Exile 2
- Marvel Rivals
No surprise really to see Steam hitting a record with both Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals releasing over the last week. Both of them have been absolute monster releases with their peak player counts together hitting over a million.
Some history for you of recent milestones of people online:
- September 2024 - 38 million
- August 2024 - 37 million
- March 2024 - 36 million
- March 2024 - 35 million
- March 2024 - 34 million
- January 2023 - 33 million
You can clearly see 2024 has been an absolute knock-out year for Valve. Steam was already a money-printing machine, and it seems now even more so.
