Fanatical are celebrating their birthday and so they have a new bundle up, which gives you a chance to win some pretty big prizes.

There's a catch though, a big one, it's part of their Birthday Mystery Bundle. With it you can buy 1-20 random Steam keys, so you don't know what you'll be getting. Which to be blunt — means you're pretty much gambling away money on it.

I decided, for science, to give it a go and ended up with: Dread X Collection, 10 Second Ninja X, Lost Castle, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood and Hue which is actually not a bad key drop at all. I didn't own a single one and the Dread X Collection especially looks fun.

Fanatical say "Every bundle purchased includes a chance to win incredible birthday gifts like a Steam Deck, Meta Quest 3 VR Headset, Lexip Bundle, Twitch Vouchers, or a Fanatical Spending Spree to enjoy on our store. Plus, a few lucky customers will uncover AAA game packs, featuring some of the hottest new releases in gaming!". You also get 5% off your next order if you pick up the bundle.

So at a minimum cost of £1 for 1 Steam key, and a chance to win, perhaps you might want to give it a go. I've seen comments from GamingOnLinux readers when I covered such bundles in the past rather happy with the games they got.

Quoting: kokoko3kIt is like gambling and collecting as a hobby for me, so thanks, but no thanks.
Quoting: tuubiPersonally I don't see why I'd ever buy one of these "mystery" bundles.
I agree completely. I have a slight aversion to clutter. I don't need games in my catalogue that I'll never play. I even turn down free games if they don't appeal to me and, thus, will never play them.

Not sure if I need more games that I'll never play, I haven't even played any of the occasional free game drops on Steam apart from Half-Life 2. If I do want something I'll just wait for an acceptable price during sale. These mystery boxes aren't really my thing

Basically loot boxes in the guise of bundles, though at least you are getting games instead of skins...

I'm guilty of paying for these every time it comes up and sometimes, I get games like Doom 2016 and Sniper Elite 5 for every junk game they give.

Ugh, I have enough junk games as it is and its very likely if I got this pack I'd only add like 2 to my library and never get around to playing them. If only it was selected from my Steam Wishlist...

You guys are missing the point; the Steam endgame is collecting games, not playing them!
