AMD presented their CES 2025 Keynote today to announce multiple new processors with a few bits of exciting news there.

Starting off with announcing the new Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D, for gamers who really want the best possible performance. AMD expect these to be "on-shelf" sometime in Q1 2025.

Also announced is the Ryzen 9000HX "Fire Range" series bringing 2nd generation 3D V-Cache technology to mobile notebooks:

Their next-generation RDNA 4 graphics architecture and the AI-powered FSR 4 also got a very brief mention, with a guest from Microsoft where it was announced FSR 4 would be coming to Call of Duty Black ops 6 later this year. That was basically all that was said during the keynote about both RNDA 4 and FSR 4. FSR 4 has a "machine learning-based model in its algorithm".

Also coming soon will be the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 with no specifications currently being given. It appears that FSR 4 will only be supported on RDNA 4 as AMD say it was "developed for RDNA 4". AMD are only previewing it during CES, so expect eventual proper details on RDNA 4 and FSR 4 later. AMD say RNDA 4 features "powerful AI engines and revamped 3rd generation raytracing accelerators".

After that of course it all went into AI, where AMD claimed "AI is the new electricity" (yes, that was really said) along with various other AI applications. Here they also found the time between gushing about AI AI AI to announce some more AI focused processors too. This includes the Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI Max PRO Series (Strix Halo), Ryzen AI 300 and Ryzen AI 300 PRO Series (Strix Point) and finally the Ryzen 200 and Ryzen 200 PRO Series (Krackan Point).

Not actually mentioned at all during the Keynote, but available in their public press material, they also announced the Ryzen Z2 for gaming handhelds. Before getting too excited though, Valve already confirmed no Steam Deck 2 with the Z2 as AMD's preview press material claimed it was coming to a Steam Deck.

AMD said systems powered by Ryzen Z2 processors are expected to be available starting in Q1 2025. AMD say these are designed to "bring console-class gaming to the palm of customers’ hands" featuring up to 8 Zen 5 CPU cores and RDNA 3.5 architecture-powered graphics .

Honestly that was one of the worst keynotes I think I've ever seen. Absolutely no info whatsoever on the gpus which is the most depressing. Having some new kickass cpus is nice I guess, but I've been waiting for rdna4 info for what seems like ages now and they just totally skipped over it and gave us nothing other than a basic name. No dates, no specs, no prices, nothing. It felt like almost the entire keynote was on stupid ai garbage. This is also at the same time openai is saying its entire business model makes no sense and they lose money on even the crazy high expensive subscription. I CANNOT WAIT for this ai bubble to burst.

Anyway, back to the keynote: A huge let down overall.

Indeed, I was waiting for AMD to reveal a bit more about RDNA4, and more particularly its power consumption since Nvidia's seems to be skyrocketing with their next gen.

Now is a good time to strike and with sensible pricing and good power efficiency, they could reproduce what happened on the CPU market 8 years ago...

@R Daneel Olivaw " I CANNOT WAIT for this ai bubble to burst."

I mean, I agree wholeheartedly, but it sounds strange coming from a robot.

Hahahah!! Very true. Maybe I just want to stay the most advanced!!!

And agree with @omer. Feels like a huge missed opportunity.

What I'm interested in is performance of 9070 XT vs 7900 XTX.

Of course, right after I order an expensive custom computer from a boutique builder with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a 4080 Super. My new build that I won't even receive for another 2 or so weeks is now out of date already. Oh well, at least it will be fully repairable and upgradable in the future to newer stuff, unlike my old computer that died last month, which was a godawful HP Omen that was proprietary garbage that I was given during the pandemic.

Same. For the sake of the planet if for nothing else. Though I shudder to fear what the next thing they'd come up with is, in addition to more massive layoffs when the bubble bursts.

I miss the days where different CPU models were fewer and simpler to understand. In this article alone I counted about 30 different ones listed.

Shame about the lack of GPU info. I think this gen might finally be a worthy upgrade from my 6800.

AMD press gave me full access now (finally), so hopefully in future I won't miss things. Updated the article just a little with some images and a small bit of clarification based on the press details.

Your computer is NOT suddenly "out of date" just because something new releases. The 9800x3d is still the best gaming CPU and will last you for years. The dual-CCD 99x3d are likely to be worse just like last-gen for gaming so not a big loss. And 4080 Super is a great card with superior raster and RT performance

Count me in too!

At least AMD is making it easy to identify which processors to avoid with their naming structure ...

I guess I'm on the other side of the fence here. I take this showcase at what it is, a showcase of new CPUs.
Since I already own a 7900 XTX, I wasn't going to replace it anytime soon anyway.
On the other hand I'm looking for a chip too run AI on for various things I'm playing with, as even the 7900 has its limits - and power drain. So, super interested in those new chips, hope they don't cost a(nother) fortune.

@KROM
It's because of these links:

I used to be able to login with Gmail but that was taken away as well.

I know its not liams fault, but I REALLY miss the quote notifications. I feel like that's the biggest loss outside of the forums... anyway. Not related to this topic, but nowhere else to post it now lol.
